IMO, $25 bucks for a plastic 5 gallon can likely has a pretty hefty profit in the price. Just a soda bottle on steroids, really.
A steel 5 gallon can is about the same price.
Of the two, which would you prefer to put gasoline in stationary storage? Does it even matter, really?

Plastic is easier to modify into something useful from those Kommiefornia CARB abominations. But other than that, it really doesn't matter.

None of the government cans really work well but these from Harbor Frt aren't bad. 5 gal is $20. The 2d handle helps when waiting for the gas to trickle out.

Plastic cans hold up well if we keep them out of the sun - older style cans with simple spouts are much better for me (I have these) and - most important these days, they are considerably lighter than the metal cans.

For "long" term storage I like the metal ones, but they are a pain to pour. I've never kept records, but it definitely seems like the metal stays stable longer. Maybe my plastc ones have a little bit of moisture that get around the pour mechanisms? Plastic is so much better in every other way.

I have one of the racing fuel plastic jugs and like it.
It does not have any of that spout crap on it and it has a vent cap.
When you get it going it really goes.
VP racing fuel can.

And DOT, go pro. Phucqk that chit plastic fugged flow chit junk. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003PGRR5W/ref=sspa_mw_detail_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've had some of these for about 5 years now. NATO issue.............fugg CA rules. https://deutscheoptik.com/SET-OF-FOUR-20-Liter-Jerry-Can.htmlThey have 5 liter (1 gal) and 10 liter (2.5 gal) ones available too. I'll never go back to plastic for storage if I can avoid it. I do have one small plastic for the weed eater, but I transfer a gallon of mix at a time from the 2.5 gallon version. The only thing difficult is getting a 5 gal one of diesel up on top of the tractor to pour into the funnel to fill. Wondering about a 12v or hand crank transfer pump and hose for that though. Be sure and order spouts and gaskets. If I needed more and couldn't get these shipped to Cali, I'd just have them sent to a friend or relative in NV, OR, or AZ and pick them up on my next trip there.

I kinda like the commercial ones too Boomer. Been more than once absolutely screwed by those spring-loaded junk SOBs! Had to roll cardboard into a funnel to rescue myself trucking back east and said never again! I'll buy a VP and spout over a new spout for a new fugged up California jugs any day. One of the most pathetic damned things we've had forced on us!

Looks good. If I needed a daily user, that's what I'd go with. What do you like about metal over plastic?

I'll buy a VP and spout over a new spout for a new fugged up jug any day, Only drawback I've found to those NATO jobs, the cheap plastic/rubber end on the spouts rots quickly in our heat and dryness. I just use the metal spouts now. With a good gasket and pouring slow enough to not overwhelm the vent in the spout, thing go OK. If I didn't hate plastic so much I'd probably have gone with the race jugs too. I hope to leave the metal ones for my relatives to deal with when I'm gone!

I use the plastic at home. No problems. Watch the prices, buy a good name brand spout. They are not rated for highway transport but you see them everywhere. They simply work. I like the square ones more than round. There's a few good brands and others... VP is standard.
After testing, I've trusted these on the roof rack on desert hunts. Don't leak and no hard brittle chit plastic spout. No proprietary threads. Win win win.

These hose benders are double stout vs others. One for going in the car, two for the lawn mower. LOL https://www.amazon.com/Bender-Racin...1-1-191b1ae3-0539-4250-ad39-b698e0b800f6.. ..
