I am always hesitant to stash reserve/return gas along my remote river, or even the Tanana. Bears love to bite into plastic. I lost 5 gals in plastic that I was counting on (but not critical) at the cabin once that way. I had it stored on a shelf up under the front overhang and made the mistake of piling up a big "future" pile of firewood underneath that the bear could reach the can from. Fortunately, I didn't have to cut firewood the next time in..... I want some of those steel Jerry cans, but not at $80 a pop when I checked them out a few months ago.! I'd go for those Nato cans - hadn't seen them before. Just what I want. Next time we drive Outside...Bastids won't ship "overseas...." without a kings ransom. The spouts/caps on plastic always seem to leak after a year or two. Fog 'em Thanks Valsdad!

Will those spouts work in capless vehicle fuel fillers?

The racing cans that MtnBoomer posted are the only way to go.

IMO, $25 bucks for a plastic 5 gallon can likely has a pretty hefty profit in the price. Just a soda bottle on steroids, really.
A steel 5 gallon can is about the same price.
Of the two, which would you prefer to put gasoline in stationary storage? Does it even matter, really? Because of the liquid it houses they have to build in a lot of liability for the product. Chain saws are another product that has a lot of liability built into the price. Blame the lawyers not the manufacturers. With today's gas a metal can is just not good as ethanol attracts and absorbs water, and water rust the inside of the can. Today plastic is your better option.

Why pour when you can siphon. This contraption works great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KlCleOSBrk

While back Tractor supply had some like those VP style jugs. Clear white. Made in USA. Label said “not for Petro products” or something. Guess that skirts the CA laws. Wanna say ~$25.

After market spouts are available on eBay without the Gov't doo-hickeys... I have a couple but it gripes me to have to buy a $10 spout just to use a gas can.

None of the government cans really work well but these from Harbor Frt aren't bad. 5 gal is $20. The 2d handle helps when waiting for the gas to trickle out. I use those exact cans, but the yellow ones for diesel... I do install those yellow air relief plugs/caps on the back so the dang things drain about 50% quicker..

I blame the insurance industry more than I blame the EPA on this one. People start burn piles with straight gas all the time. If the brush is green they keep pouring more straight gas right on the Fire. 1% of the time or maybe 5% of the time something goes wrong. When something goes wrong sometimes people get seriously injured and want somebody to sue. Kinda like tripping on your shoelace and falling on a rock and wanting to sue the owner of the rock.

I have tapped a hole and used a wing bolt also... but those racing cans look fantastic for $29. Only way I will go from now on.

Ebay has the VP branded "race cans, with spouts, for $70 shipped, which is a few bucks cheaper than the Pegasus site. Bear in mind, that site's jusgs do not include the spout in their list price.
Also, the VP brand are labeled as USA made, not sure on the others...

Check your state laws. Tractor Supply sells these, but not in Virginia. I picked up a couple in West Virginia.

I like the Rubber Maid Gott cans. We can buy replacement spouts at our farm store.

Another vote for these. I've got a bunch of them and have never spilled a drop of gasoline using them or smelled gas when I have left a filled gas can in the car even for days at a time.
My other auto is a .45
