So I've come to the conclusion that I need a high wall with either a long range tang sight or an MVA scope. Should I get a B78 heavy barrel or grab the first new 1885 I can find for a reasonable price and rebarrel it? I'm thinking .30-06 for the caliber or possibly. 30-40 Krag, either one will go with my 1895's in those calibers. Might hunt with it but probably more for just long range plinking. I was pretty set in a B78 until I found out they dont have top tangs so no place to mount a tang sight I dont care that the new 1885's will have a tang safety or a rebound hammer. Either of those are easily remedied. Thoughts? Experience?

High Walls are classic especially in retro chamberings IMO..The Krag you mentioned would be my choice over the '06 .. This Uberti 38-55 below is truly a sweet piece and shoots my cast loads easily into 1 MOA if I do my part with the add on MVA sport tang..

1885 without doubt. They were chambered in 30 Government for several years. So, you should not have any trouble sourcing one.

A Browning 1885 with the 28" barrel is what you want. It will make the 30-06 sing with the right load.
