Felt like getting hit by a line drive In baseball. Sitting on a bench, behind the firing line. Bullet hit me in the thigh and bounced off, landing 3 feet away. Guy sitting next to me picked it up and it was still to hot to hold! Got a bruise on my leg, glad it didn’t hit me in the face.

We shoot pins at 18 yards, I was sitting 20 feet behind that. 45 Colt 250 gr bullet. It still had a lot of steam.

Seems damn strange. I just shot a bowling pin shoot yesterday and no bullets even think about coming back in the shooters direction. You may want to post up some pics of your set-up. I'm wondering if you have some steel in the table or something that causes ricochets? Also, your pins aren't getting hit much if they are being used for "months". The ones we tore into yesterday were pretty much through after the match...

It happens.

I’d wager most of the time it’s from lead on lead due to the pins retaining previous shots.

Tables are wood frames with plywood tops. Pretty much the same setup most shoots have. It was a freak accident. Pretty sure it was, as deflave said, bullet hitting another bullet and coming back. We do get a lot of use out our pins. Maybe to much. 😳 Been shooting there for 4 years and this is the first time I have seen it happen.

A classic example of why to wear eye pro even way back off the line, you just never know. Glad it wasn't worse for the OP. From other examples given here it sounds like bowling pins are something to be extra cautious around.
