A recent move and search for some new hunting ground has me thinking about getting a bolt action slug gun in order to hunt some land that is slugs and muzzle loaders only. With Nikon not making their Slug Hunter scope anymore, what's out there for decent slug gun scopes to put on top of a Savage 220? Thanks.

On my Browning A-Bolt Slug Gun, I bought a Burris FOUR X 1.5-6x42 from Doug @ Cameraland.... Awesome scope IMO

The slughunter wasn't anything great. Any rifle scope will be fine in the 220. I have a VX-R on my 220.

I shot a savage 212 for about 10 years and on the first year destroyed a weaver, leupold, and an old redfield trying to get it sighted in. Now this is going to sound funny but I shot a Simmons slug scope 1.5-4 for 10 years and it held zero an never was a problem. For some reason that cheap scope just worked.

I would put a Leupold 2x FXII compact on it.

I'm going to disagree. I have two older Nikon 4x scopes on Rem 1100-LT20 with slug barrels (using discontinued Buckhammers) which put them inside 2" at 100 yards all day long.

I took my Nikon Slughunter BDC and moved it from my Rem 11-87 to my Savage 220F. It's bright & crisp optics and makes for a perfect combination! So much so, that I just purchase a second Nikon Buckmaster 4x (used) and put it atop my 350L AR upper.

Love Nikon optics!

In 2015 I destroyed a Leupold Ultimate Slam, their slug gun/muzzle loader scope, in very short order on my Savage 220. I shot a few loads to get it sighted in one range session, and the scope failed during my second session. I don't have an exact round count, but it was no more than 20.

I no longer have a slug gun, but if I were to do it again I would likely go with a SWFA 6x or a Burris Fullfield II.

Something with a 5" to 6" eye relief. I love my Nikon Slug Hunter. The first one lasted about 8 years until the reticle broke. Nikon replaced it about 10 years ago and this one is still holding 0.

I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9 on my Savage 220. It works great.
