I always buy my wife two huge hanging plants for Mother's day. They last awhile and then die, covered in Aphids. We've tried a couple sprays, but they either don't kill the aphids or they kill the aphids AND the plants.

Thanks.

Yep, dish soap works fine. Make sure to hit the underside of the leaves, that's where most of them hang out.

Remember back (40 -50 years ago) when Kwell lotion was recommended to use to clean lead out of pistol / rifle barrels?

Neem, can buy it at Lowes. It is an organic product made from Neem oil of the Neem tree. Active ingredient is Azadiractin. It works as an insecticide, fungicide and miticide. A natural product that really works and is safe.

I get aphids bad on my tomato plants. I spray the hell out of them with permethrin.

They drift in and repopulate within about 3 weeks. So I have to stay on them.

Also, if you have aphids, usually you have some ants close by that are using them as honeydew slaves.

Put some lawn and turf insecticidal granules down and if this near a concrete patio or deck, try to get some liquid chemical into any cracks, crevices and edgings.

Yeah, I bought a container of ladybugs once to treat an apricot tree that had an aphid infestation. Let them go and the next day there were no ladybugs to be found.

I bought a bunch of ladybugs for aphids on our grapes. They all flew away for greener grass.

There are lots of cures for aphids. The question is whether you want to keep the plants alive.

Ah aphids. Easy to kill, hard to control.
