Ok I save Stihl saws, that's not the point how do you guys keep the bar oil from leaking out when you are not using the saws, the back of my Suburban is a mess I keep at least one saw in the truck for emergencies there has to be a way to stop them from leaking bar oil!
I'm going to try laying them on their side to see if that helps.

Anyone got ideas ?

The Stihls are a little different from some older saws that used to “pressurize” the oil tank to oil the bar. In those, you could open the cap to release the pressure when you were done using it. May not be much of a help in the Stihl’s....

When you are done using the saw crack the chain oil tank to relieve the pressure. That little pump has done its thing and created pressure in there and there's only one place for it to go. I put up with a lot of leaked chain oil till I figured this one out.

edit.. oops, too slow fb beat me to it smile

Bar side up laying on it's side as you suggested...helps, but the reality is the pump discharge check valve is located on the pump and there will always be that oil passage that is full, between the valve and the bar orfice...it WILL drain, particularly when day-night temps fluctuate a lot.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Get a plastic container, I keep mine in one when I go to the lease to keep all the crap ( tools, spare chains, oil, etc) in one location. Keeps it out of the rain if in back of vehicle. My best idea, but what the Fuuck do I know.

My bad I assumed Stihls were like husqvarna and it was probably just a tank pressure issue.

But the video shows probably a silly design item and a missing part. What else is new, its a Stihl. (Just trying to make this a proper chain saw thread, thanks for reading.)

Went camping a couple weeks ago and brought the saw and the new case along. Fueled up cut a lil wood for the fire and put it back in the case. Next morning I'm smelling a faint odor of gas. WTF? Yep... dum ass didn't tighten the fuel cap properly. Opened it up and there's a cup of gas rolling around in there. I'd buy it again if I lost this one. The original contoured cases didn't do it for me but these stack with other stuff nicely and do not roll around.

This with a big rag inside the box to soak up the bar oil. Works good, so far.

You just cost me $59!

I've got spare chains and 2 stroke oil stashed in the door cubbie holes, a scrench on the dash, file and guide in a toolbox... Chit scattered all over the pickup.

Should be plenty of room for all that stuff inside the box?

Bar oil and mixed gas ride together in a 5 gallon bucket in the bed.

60 bucks is screw all for anything chain saw with an embossed logo! hahahaha
There's quite a bit of room in there depending on the size of your saw. With my 51 I've got a quart jug of gas quart of oil and there's room for two more quart containers iirc, there's little molded spots for containers. Got files, wrench and a few other tools wrapped up in a bag in there. I went to put my old fallers hard hat in there but then I remembered the visor is pooched but it would have fit I think!
