Would anyone here buy one of these online without first hand inspection? Heard the quality increased over the last few years. But this news of Remington has me wondering how warranty and return work would be handled. What are your thoughts? I've always wanted a Marlin 336ss. (I only want one in .30-30. That's why i posted in deer forum).

Only if it can be returned. I've bought two Marlin levers since Remington took over and both had problems

Heard they finally got it together with the Marlingtons too, but I still would never buy one sight-unseen without extensive hands-on inspection first. I’m the same way with current production S&W revo’s. Lots of bad reviews about lack of QC on the internet, and it isn’t all an exaggeration either. But, if you take your time and scrutinize the guns off a shelf closely, you’ll find they still make some cherries. Far as fixing potential issues with the marlins moving forward, I have no idea how that might play out.

Clean, used JM Marlins aren't difficult to find. Why take a risk?

A friend bought a 45/70 new manufactured
by Remington a couple of years ago and it
was on par with the old overpriced JM's
Fitted good, worked good, shot good

Now. . . I'll be the first one to declare that
when they first took over marlin and H&R,
they sent out some C-R-A-P that shouldn't
have made it past the most lax of QC.
One was a rifle I bought new that had to
be returned for a replacement barrel.
It had rifling that zigzagged, went left,
went right, went left, went right, etc.
I took it to the gun store to show all them
because I could hardly believe that a
gun maker could produce something like
that, let alone ship it out to a customer

I bought a 336Y in 2016 and it turned out the barrel wasn't indexed into the receiver straight. That was OK with irons but didn't work too good with a scope. Marlin had to replace the rifle

No. I have seen some wide swings in workmanship when they first came out. The new ones are pretty good but that said does anyone know what will be shipped when they buy one online?

I have a 357 cowboy I bought new about its been less than a year .It has ran without a problem.

Curious if anyone has tried to nail down a minimum serial number that correlates to Remlin sorting out quality control issues (if indeed they have). There are a lot of JM Marlins out there but their prices are rising. Especially ones that don't look like beater guns.

One nitpick I have about the Remlins is their serial number. I like traditional unobtrusive serial numbers on JM's that are impressed and blued. Don't care for the frosty box bordered SN. And the square stamp in front is hideous.

me buyed one 5yr ago but it had to go back, junk-junk-junk !!!!

OK maybe just two junks !!!!

I have bought three new Marlins in the last year. All have been flawless. Very good accuracy and function. I think my three new Marlins may be more accurate than my older JM stamped marlins. The wood fit on the older guns may be a little better,but it's pretty close really. Also the polish on the older guns may be ever so slightly better,but again it's pretty close.

The newer guns chronograph faster,the bores must be really be in minimum tolerances and the specs very tight for this to be true.

I would not be afraid to buy a new Marlin,but I always like to see a rifle and hold it my own hands if that's possible. There are a lot of Marlin stocking dealers so finding one to check out for yourself should not really be insurmountable.

I bought two of my Marlins from a local shop,and bought one,a Texan Deluxe on Gun Broker. Satisfied with all of them.
