Where were you?

I was in Dayton Ohio. We were building Dayton Aviation National Park.

I answered many structural engineering and fire protection questions this day and for months/years after.

Since that day I have always carried at least one weapon.

I was on vacation to do some work on the house. Got up, sat on the couch, wife said look what is happening - saw the second plane hit on live TV.

I was heading back into town to meet with my boss after a "lucky" night.

The OR breakroom @ Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls SD.

On my way from college courses to work. Got to the office and you could hear a pin drop as people stared at the TV.

At my desk and computer selling firearms in the Wholesale Firearms Industry. Phones stopped ringing when the second plane hit. Didn’t ring the rest of the day

After that, they didn’t stop ringing for 2 years Straight!

Alexandria, Va. The plane that hit the Pentagon, shook my house and several seconds later I heard the explosion. We had already seen the second plane and had an idea what was happening. I was certain the Capital Building had been hit. I’ll never forget how helpless I felt with my wife in DC and my kids at school. I couldn’t get to either or get them on the phone. The Squad can go to hell!

Home. Had the day off. Wife got a phone call from her mother saying "They're blowing up New York" . My wife told me "Well, I think my mother's finally gone around the bend". Turned on tv and watched. For hours. Saw the second hit. Looked like terrorism to me from the first burning building..

Walked into the office in Ontario, OR where a few people were gathered around a radio. I asked what was going on.

One guy turned to me and said, "the end of the world as we know it", and that's a verbatim quote. Pretty good summation.

Oddly, I don't remember where I was, but I was watching it on tv as was anyone that heard about it. Again, oddly, I remember where I was when they read the OJ Simpson verdict. A customer called me inside so we could watch it together. I remember I was washing the truck at about 8:30 in the morning when I heard Mt. Saint Helens blow up. I was hundreds of miles from it but heard it distinctly.

I think the sheer trauma of the event itself has overshadowed my location on 9/11.

I was in a monthly project review meeting in Bechtel's office in Houston. Myself and my Bechtel project manager were standing at the 11th floor elevator to head outside for a break. Each floor in the building had a TV at the elevator door. This is where we both watched it unfold.

In bed with my girlfriend. Actually I just got up to take a piss and wash and saw it on the T.V. in the living room.

Writing code, working hot and heavy on a software project. I was getting kinda ticked at all the folks talking and making noise around me. Guy stopped and asked if I heard what happened. The important stuff I was working on became a lot less important than it was just a minute before.
