Jakarta, Indonesia....the capital of the most populous Muslim country in the world.
I admit to getting a little nervous as I watched events unfold on the screen in the hotel lobby.

Pulling out of my driveway on the way to work listening to Bob and Tom. The first plane had just hit and they were speculating about whether it was a terrorist attack. Spent the whole day in my office watching it as the markets went down the tubes.

I was in a plane flying from DFW to Memphis, phone started blowing up when we landed. Taxied to the end of the runway and watched planes that had been rerouted to Memphis land. Guess the airport has many more runways then a similar sized airport because it was a primary FedEx hub.

I called my secretary and told her to tell the rental car company I would be returning it to Dallas.

I turned the TV on just in time to see the plane hit building number 7.

On my couch. I'd been laid off a couple days before. I had just finished looking at the job postings and sending resumes on my dial up internet connection. Watched the second one in real time.

Came out of the mountains after chasing elk all morning and stopped in a tiny general store in Neihart Montana. Gentleman was watching on a small black and white TV, we joined him for the next hour or so. Like everyone else who remembers that day, I won’t ever forget where I was or the feelings that stil linger.

I was at my desk working on the next years maintenance budget! When the radio said the towers had been attacked!

Two of our fire engines, the Battalion Chief and dozer were all up in the Sierras fighting wildland fires.
My partner and I were staffing the remaining Municipal engine and had been up on calls all night.

We got up and turned on the news in time to see the second plane hit. Then started calling people back to work anticipating that the west coast would be hit next.

Lucky for us that never happened ....

I was in the bedroom getting dressed for work and had the TV on for the morning news. I watched in horror as the second plane struck. I'll never forget that moment.

I had a room on the 10th floor of a Reno hotel/casino for a golf tournament the previous day. Flipped on the tv that morning and watched the second plane slam into the towers. Looked out the window and saw planes flying everywhere at the Reno airport and hurried to get out of that tower asap. Didn't know how widespread this attack might be. Drove home listening to the radio. Sad day for America.

I was on my 4 days off of my 4 on, 4 off work schedule back then. Was a beautiful September morning and I was out early. Coming home a bit later I stopped at a general store/ gas station to pick something up. They had a radio on in the store. As I was walking out I heard something on the radio about a plane hitting a building in NY City. I thought; "how the hell did that happen?". But never turned on my truck radio going home. Got home and the wife had the TV on.

Allen West the politician? I thought he was Army?

I was working.

When the second plane hit the WTC I knew it was more than just an accident and i told my coworker that I wanted to kill the SOB that was responsible.

On a roof nailing down plywood. Wife called & told me. We all got down & turned the radio on trying to figure out what happened.

Getting ready to go to my office and my wife called my attention to the Today Show showing damage to one of the towers in NY. Stood watching as the second plane hit. A bit later when I got to my office, the office had a view of the Tulsa International Airport, I watched planes land as fast as they could for the next few hours. For the next few days I and my family did what we could for stranded travelers. Food, a place to shower, use of a spare room, transportation to bus stations, rental car lots and help getting them back home. I was glad I was not with a buddy on a hunt to Alaska. He was stranded for more than a few days on the tundra without knowing why until bush planes were allowed to fly again.

Standing in front of a milling machine, bosses son came running out of the office & yelling a plane had crashed into a building in NYC. The saw operator had a TV & we all gathered around, wondering what had happened.

And then, live, we saw the second. I suppose watched it a few more times in the following days just to gather info, but have not viewed it since & don't intend to.

Working, on the road between calls. Had a appointment the next day in a nuclear plant. Didn't get in that plant for another week and I already had unescorted access for that plant. When I got back on site they had built steel sniper hootches on the roof of the control building and some tower stands. Thought they were going to do a anal exam going into the protected area that day.

Don't recall anyone else ever mentioning this.... I was in east bum cheese Wisconsin at a nuclear plant with the prospect of driving my rental car back to Maryland the next day and had to wait quite a while to fill up my tank. Long drive the next day in a luxurious Ford Taurus station wagon. Traffic was light.
