Well they haven't closed New York. We have some pretty good deer hunting, lots of public land and we're not far from New Hampshire.You might consider it.

That stinks. But I'm dealing with the same thing. I held off on putting together any kind of out of state hunts this year once I saw Covid was screwing everything up

I have been hunting New York since 1996, but only for turkey. Did I say I LOVE hunting turkeys? When I first started I was plagued by posted land. I soon realized that MOST folks would give permission for turkey hunting, but balked for deer permission. I hunt pretty much in Hannibal, Fairhaven, Oswego, Mexico area. See TONS of deer.

For years I have truly enjoyed your Anticosti post. It will be missed, I am sure not as much as the hunt, but still missed. Maybe in 2021 we can cross paths there because I have wanted to hunt there for years.

When I was much younger my passion for guns and hunting was just as strong than as it is now, and I am 75. I don't really "care" if I kill something or not, but the success of the hunt is STILL the frosting on the cake. I see a deer, bear, moose, pheasant, partridge, or a turkey, I still get all nervous and shaky. If that feeling ever quits, then and ONLY then will I stop hunting. There was a gun shop that myself and many friends used to go to. There was a pot belly stove in the middle of the floor for winter heat. We used to go there frequently and sit around the stove sharing stories and thoughts. "Some" of the contributors here on the 24hcf give me the same pleasure. I can't type worth a hill of beans, but it warms my heart to know there are so many here that are like minded. Thank you all.

I'm not familiar with that area of NY. Go South into Delaware and Chenango Counties and there is some pretty good deer hunting to be had on State and NYC reservoir land which is open to anyone to hunt. You might even get permission on some private land but that is getting more difficult unless you know somebody.

Many American have chosen to served their Country, but most don't feel any obligation to do so these days. 2 years of mandatory Federal service upon graduation from high school for every mentally and physically able American citizen would provide a venue for people from vastly different places and backgrounds to be forced together and learn that they are a lot more alike than they are different.

Your gun shop with the pot belly stove must have been something like Bill DeVaux's gun shop in Norwich, VT, from when I was a kid listening to old guys, many of whom were probably younger than I am now, shoot the bull on friday evenings. My interest in the 250-3000 and 257 Roberts got their start at DeVaux's, as Bill shot a high grade 722 in 257 and his wife shot a pre-'64 70 carbine in 250-3000 and later a Ruger 77 RL proto-type that Bill got directly from WBR, Sr.

No, this shop was right on the Mass NH border. Aubrey Wornham was his name. I will never forget him. When I got old enough to join the Navy, I went away. My first leave after basic, I came home for 14 days,. The first chance at time off I went to the shop. I saw through the glass he had his back to me. I opened the door slowly and in a soft firm voice I said don't move, it's a stick up. Now Aubrey was old and all he didi was chuckle. He said have a look over your lest shoulder. There on the back porch was his wife, Helen. Double barrel pointed right at my squash. He said if he hadn't know my voice my next ride would have been in a hearse. TRUE story. The 3 of us had a good laugh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT lesson learned.

Lots of deer in the fields along Lake St. when traveling from Pulaski to Post Ontario and in both directions along Rte. 3 to Mexico and Sandy Pond.
Over the years have shot a couple of very nice bucks on 600 acres of farmland owned by friends in Chenango County.

A lot of hunting competition and hunting adventure has been cancelled this year, the election is fast approaching so is the end of the year.

That's my home turf when I'm out there. I get there 7 or 8 times every year. Before I was wise to the area, my son was just a boy and we were on 13 going to Pulaski. We were going past the Douglaston area. A flock of turkeys were on the west side of the road. My son and I were in camo. We belly almost to them. I made quite a few calls and had fun. We went back to the vehicle and left. When we told some locals what we did they were amazed that we made in in and off the property without getting caught. I really enjoy that area except now I remningd myself I am in commie country.

Commie country? Hold on there. I have got roots in that country. There's conservatives in those hills! Live there in the 70s. Been a whole lot of years since I enjoyed that part of NY. Bought my bikes from Don Cornell's Yamaha shop in Pulaski. Lived north of there in Adams Center south of Watertown. Shoveled a few snow flakes in that country. Fished the Lakers and Large Mouth out from Sandy Pond. Road the Yamaha Enduro on Tug Hill and some of the nicest bucks live up on that plateau. Love hunting the state but that's not seeing the annual Anticosti thread.

Longbeardking I sure am sorry you got Covided out this year. As others have indicated you have some fans around here including this old guy. 1982 I met a man in Gloversville who had hunted the island and sure was enamored with it. From the first year I saw your thread I've hunted there vicariously through you folks. Will be looking for the thread next season. And thanks for posting it. You're a good story teller.

Anticosti is on my bucket list.
