What is a fair price for this scope that has no ring marks, gloss finish, duplex reticle? Also those who have used one what is your opinion of the scope?

My guess would be $200-250. In our part of the world, a fixed 8x would be just about perfect.

You'll probably have to give 300 for it.

I paid $250.00 shipped here in the Classifieds for a M8 6X42 about a year ago. Very nice scope, but I prefer a 6X36.

Slightly off topic: There's no way to know. I wonder how many Leupold M8's are still in use. My 8x is from the mid-70's. There are several others in active use today. You know those Leupold scopes won't track and are second rate in all aspects. Baloney.

I have two M8 6x36 scopes that would be about 20 years old. They are on my 7x57 and 7x64. Both have friction dials and track pretty good.

I am a fan of the M8s, have a number of them I found quite a while ago that they are very reliable about holding zero, but do not reliably track (a couple of them do, but most don’t). They are often frustrating to achieve zero. But once there, I have absolute confidence in them. Current stable includes 3x20, 4x28, 6x36, 6x42, 10x40, 12x40.

The variables are another story, as I have had several quit holding zero. They were fixed when I sent them in, but I have soured on them.

I've always tapped the friction adjustment lightly after moving, else a shot or two will get the reticle to accept the change....
