I have 2 equally accurate loads for my 300 WBY with a 27.5" bbl. Both loads are in the 3,025 fps range.
1 load uses the 200 gr Nosler Partition and it has been used successfully.
The other load uses a 200 gr Nosler Accubond. It is accurate but I haven't hunted with it yet.
Heading to MT for an elk hunt. I won't be encountering shots beyond 400 yds.
I am inclined to switch over to the AB from the PT, however MT FWP has plastered the area with Grizzly Bear recovery area signs.
Should I stick with the proven PT load or switch over to the AB load?
Thanks,

Why would you be inclined to switch from the proven (in your rifle) Partition to another bullet?

Inside 400 I see no reason to change from your proven NPT load. I worked up a 200 NAB load for my .300 Win Mag but it is for longer range possibilities then you are talking.

Great picks, either or have been excellent for elk for us.

I’ve seen them both work excellent from 100-550 yards out of 300 magnums.

It sounds to me that you are trying to fix something that isn't broken.

They will both do the same thing, use which ever one you want too.

You can't go wrong with the 200gr Partition in 30-06 and up for elk to 400 yds. No need to look for more or different. The Accubond will fly a bit flatter, but you'd never notice the difference at 400 yds. Both would do just fine if you had to defend yourself against a bear, given that you shot straight. Take the one you've been successful with, and don't second-guess now. If you've already got a good load with a great bullet, messing with it now when the season is less than 6 weeks away is not productive or necessary.

Good luck to you on your hunt!

Thank you gentlemen, I appreciate the feedback a lot. I am inclined to stick with the 200gr PT.
Hoping you-all have a good season.

After you get your elk with the 200 Partition this year, work up a load for the 200 Accubond for next time.

If you’re looking at 400 and under, I’d just stick with the 200 Partition. I had planned to try both the 200 PT and AB in my 300 Weatherby, but the 180 AB shoots so darn well in it that I haven’t even tried the 200s. Not sure how much I’d gain.

Last night, my friend and I had a chat about about the PT vs AB question. He is a retired King County Swat Sniper.
He reminded of the work I put into developing the new 200gr AB load.
I am going to move forward with the new load instead.
I will site it in for 2" high at 200 yds. Should be 17 to 20 inches low at 400 yds.
Thank you for the bandwidth.

I started experimenting with new loads for the coming season years ago.

Ballistic tips were my first love, then Partitions. For a number of years i've shot Accubonds almost exclusively, from 25 cal through 375. Cal.
Last year or so I've had excellent results on hogs, Aoudad, and deer with the Hornady ELD-X hunting bullets.

I find enjoyment in developing loads and then testing them on hoglets. Best tasting target media i've found to date!

ya!
