WaaaHoooo!
Traded my way into a 1942 Mfg. Model 64 Winchester in 30-30 today.
One happy gun loonie here! Been wanting a '64 for years, and finally today it came together.
I traded a Remmington LSS mtn. rifle, and $75 for this gun.
I'st range report; got 15/16" for a 4 shot group at 30 Yards.
Was gonna shoot 5, but "chickened" out after 4. It's got some blue wear at the muzzle and on the bottom of the reciver, and an extre hole in the stock for a sling swivel. But is my "shooter' I've always wanted.
This rifle came with a Williams 5D peep sight.
Just had to "brag" a little on my new gun! (grin!)

It's not a collector gun, but is exactly what I was looking for. I have a total of $605. in it, got $535. trade outa my LSS Mtn. rifle, with out scope, and am thrilled to no end!
So, for a $75. cash outlay I got the gun I've been dreaming of for years.
Have taken it for 3 "woods walks" and it seems to "point" just the way it should. (pulling up and pointing at stumps)
Can't wait for deer season!

VB. I have two of them. (YUP! Outright brag and not ashamed of it. :)) The first one was made in 1938, the year I was born and the standard model in 1951. The 1938 rifle shows signs of serious but honest use, but the 1951 rifle looks like it's right at 98 percent. $400 for each of them, but it took a lot of talking to do it. Where I screwed up real bad was I tirned down the one he had in .219 Zipper for the same price.
Many years ago (about 1965) when I was dirt poor (not all that better off now) I went into a gun shop in Las Vegas and they had the first M64 I ever saw. I asked to look at it and feel totally in love with the looks and feel of that rifle. been looking for one ever since and fell into two at a decent price on the same day. The 1938 rifle is a shooter doing 1.25" with factory 170 gr. ammo. The 1951 rifle however thinks it is a scattergun. I'm thinking that at 100 yards, it wouldn't surprise me that if I shot at a deer I would miss it entirely. can't win'em all. I'll have to try some 150 gr. bulets in it one of thetse days before I decide what to do with it. My preference has always been the 170 gr. bullet, but this one just might have different ideas.

Update on the '64
Shot two 5 shot groups almost off had at 30 yards, I was leaning against a post. Got 2-3/4" for the first, and 2" even for the second. Used a paper paper plate and shot for center.
Yep, this one is a "keeper"
Seems to like the same 150 grain load as my 94 carbine.

I wanted one ever since I saw my Aunts 64 back when I was about 10. Started to look seriously about 10 years ago and found a beauty on the west coast. I think I paid $500 for the standard model. 1954 mfg. date, same year I first saw my Aunts. 30/30 in great shape, not a bad shooter either.

Congrats! I have a 64 Deluxe Carbine with the Super Grade swivels that I bought from someone here on the Campfire. Like you, I looked for years before finding one. Very sweet little rifles with CLASS. Thanks...Bill.

$500 is not a bad price for such a fine piece of equipment as yours.
