What’s your max range on deer for those of you that have used them?

Is 300 too far? 200?

Load is 55gr TTSX that does very bad things to them at the tenge we’ve used so far.

Tom, Ive used that bullet many times on deer and such. Im perfectly comfortable with a 200 yard shot, but prefer not to do 300 unless conditions are ideal. I practice regularly at 200 and 300 for those "just in case" days..

Not to hijack, but what ranges are in your comfort zone for something like the Hornady 55 SP behind a shoulder, as opposed to the Barnes TTSX? Same-same?

I'm extremely comfortable on deer way farther than I'd admit to on here with a 75 ELD-M.

I’ve killed a couple does with the 70 grain Speer Semi spritzer at 200 yards and saw no difference in performance as the ones I’ve shot at 50-100 with the same bullet. That’s far enough for me.

At 200 yards a 65gr Sierra Gameking works great. I took several large does at that range this summer. It worked fine at 250 yards too, but I only took one at that distance.

Well over 500 yards with the 62 TSX and 63 SMP. I couldn't imagine that 55 TTSX wouldn't do just as well, unless it is started at turtle speed.

Talk to me about your load recipe. I’m using Varget, CCI400, and the 75 ELDM for 2934 fps and scary good accuracy.

I have killed some big deer with 62gr SP pills... lots of hogs. They WILL run if shot in the lungs/heart. Shoulder shots or neck shots anchor better. I limit my shots to 250 yards. Probably kill further out but it's easier to use another rifle if shooting longer distance.

Yes. Or for any bullet with proven performance on deer..i.e. E-tips, Gold Dots

I was hoping you'd chime in. I guess I just needed some reassurance. I'm cool with 200. That bullets is bad, bad, bad, on deer! Good lord they die from it. laugh

Yeah they would be. But that bullet doesn't group as well. I'd really like 60gr NP to work but it doesn't like those either. I have some 62gr Hornady's but haven't got to loading them yet.

But now that we've used the 55gr TTSX on about 4 deer now, I'm probably not going to switch to something for hunting. They shoot tiny little groups at 100. And of the 3 WT and 1 Mule shot with them, only the Mulie moved from where it was shot. It ran 40 yards and poured blood the entire time.
