I need to run a gas line to my Blackstone griddle and fire pit table on our covered deck. There is already a 1/2" steel line below the deck that I can connect to. I can finish the runs in steel pipe, but the flex would be much quicker and easier. Just curious what peoples experiences have been with CSST.

I’ll use it in places where I can be sure it is protected against being bumped or vibrated or flexed. And I can bond and ground it.

It got a bad rep before the codes required it to be properly grounded. When that is done it is pretty good, but it’s walls are really thin so it has to be well protected, especially at fittings.

Was in gas field 25 years. Just hard pipe it. Then you do not have any worry.

I work on an oil and gas platform. We use Stainless seamless tubing for gas runs to instruments. Some 3500 psi service. It doesn't leak and is easy to work with.

As others have said, I would run hard pipe if it was me, with a UL listed flexible gas connector to your grille. Now it has been a few years since dealing with NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code but if memory is correct you can use it if it is protected from damage within 6ft of grade.

A bigger issue with CSST is that it must be electrically bonded to the hard gas piping and that piping will need to be bonded to the electrical system in the dwelling, meaning that the gas piping must be grounded to the same ground as the electrical system with a #6 AWG wire. If I remember correctly this bonding is not required if only hard (schedule 40) pipe is used.
