Scouted a couple spots near Brainerd today. Lots of sign, but unfortunately about half of it was wolf tracks.

Well the slots are there for the same reason you are. That’s not always bad. Unless you didn’t see any deer tracks.

Tom - I've a feeling you and Ryan's will have a very memorable hunt. I'd lean towards the 280, but just because I have one.
Jeff I might. But the .280 weighs quite a bit more. But, it’s the coolest gun of the group by far.

Build a taj mahal of deer stands.
A guy I work with has a group that owns a few hundred acres in central MN. They build giant platform stands, that are pretty much sky cabins. They'll have 2 guys at a time in them and play cards and stuff while waiting for deer on the food plots. Not my style, but they seem to like it.

I could enjoy a hunt like that probably at least once. I wouldn't want it to be the standard though. It would just be something different to experience.

Nah man, this will be pretty similar to Roosters, just offering Deb a little more comfort & 1 less pop up for me to worry about, when it's dumping snow !

I mean...nothing wrong with an enclosed stand, but these guys take it to the extreme. They're not hard hunters by any means either. They just go on the opener for the most part.

I have one fully enclosed elevated stand with sliding windows, door, rubber roof, carpeted floor and a swivel chair. I rarely use it because it is too warm with the heater on when wearing my hunting clothes. The real reason I do not use it much is because when I sit on a stand I generally hear the deer before I see them and that is not possible inside the enclosed stand. In heavy rain or a blizzard, the shelter is nice, but never had much success hunting in those conditions either.
For hunting I will take an open stand with some type of screening to partially conceal my movements over the enclosed box style stands.
On the other hand, if the goal is to play cards with your buddies while "hunting" maybe they work if big enough.

The doctor I worked for had one that was basically a very nice, small cabin on stilts. Three stories, with heat, electric, and a water holding tank, along with a composting toilet. He pretty stayed out there for a couple weeks. Did all his office work from the stand. He even had a deal with the pizza shop to deliver pizzas out there at halftime of the football games on Sunday. Yeah, not exactly hunting like I know it, but he enjoyed it, could afford it, and shot a few deer out of there.

Oh don't get me wrong, I have plenty of stands out there that I use too. It just depends on the crop rotation which one I use.
I built this mobile shack because I was sick of factory ground blinds when it's really cold out.
The door zipper {if it works} is so damn loud on a cold morning, it feels like you just wasted a bunch of time walking quietly in to your blind.
And it is pretty nice to sit in comfort! lol

Amen Jim! Don't forget about Velcro, [bleep] loud as hell on a quiet morning. Sometimes comfort trumps everything

OMG that door Velcro! Lol I’m positive that can be heard in 3 counties. And of course it’s never windy when you’re opening that window.
The zipper is not far behind.
