1951. (Should have C lever boss code.). EG in that time was not factory D&T, so for me it’s only worth what you are comfortable paying for a good hunting rifle.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. Would appear it's priced to high at 535 as it's only a shooter for 87 gr bullets better to find one 1960 or newer that has a tighter twist. Mb

An EG in 250-3000 at $535 is not priced too high, but if it's not a rifle you want then it's not a rifle you should buy.

Don't be misled into thinking the 'slow twist' .250 won't shoot. Most of them do fine with 100 grain factory ammo or Speer hotcores. They don't pattern like shotguns in my experience. That's not a bad price...
A post mill .250 is sure harder to find for good price.

Yep. Postmil 250's are just plain hard to find. By then the 243 was out and had taken over the light caliber market.
A postmil 99A in 250 is probably the most common? Definitely going to be a jump in price over that EG, but it will be factory d&t and have a faster twist for heavier bullets.
Personally I like the 87gr Speer's. When I used a 243 I was using 90gr-95gr bullets, so I have no problem with a good 87gr bullet. Worked beautifully on antelope, still waiting to get a deer with one.

Everybody forgets, it would seem, that the .250-3000 made its reputation with the 87 grain bullet. Nowadays heavy/longer bullets are all the rage for no earthly reason in terms of shooting deer in the woods. Probably a combination of people viewing themselves as being long range snipers rather than hunters anymore, and the pervasiveness of the "Creedmoor" mentality.

Mine shoots 100 grain Remington factory loads like a laser. It'll never be a collector's item, but I can't imagine a better deer rifle for the price.
