I picked up a single shot .22 Model 1905 target rifle yesterday at a gun shop in New Hampshire. I've never seen one and couldn't leave without it. Not finding a lot of info on the web or in the Blue Book. How common are they?

I have one in the 39xxx range. Past that I can't tell you much and I don't think there is much in print about the rifle.

Anyone else have a higher serial numbered 1905???

This gun seemed priced right to me at $129. It is s/n 5493 and is in 90% condition or better.

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

Jed, is that info for a 1904?

Since the 1905 BrentD is looking at is in the 5000 range I would assume the 1904 and 1905 had their own serial range.

I would buy it. What part of the country are you in?

What rear sight does it have?

Rickster,
Yeah,mine was a 1905.

A 1905 in the 5000 range doesn't seem right. May be we can get that number verified...???

I'm from Maine and bought it at LL Cote in Errol NH. Nice shop and good people, by the way, if anyone happens through northern NH. Here are some photos of the sights.

Rear sight looks like a replacement.
Front looks broke off at the top.
Sure does look like factory finish on the wood and metal...Nice find for that money!

Agreed on the sights Jed.

Were the target models perhaps serialed seperately from the standard model 1905?

Serial number is correct. If the 1904 and 1905 are in the same serial range I would think say this is a very early 1905!
