I'm thinking about going to a lee collet + Redding body die setup for my newly acquired Tikka 223 At Mathman's suggestion, I've done exactly that and it works quite well.

I've never had to bump shoulders on 223 cases when using the Lee collet sizer. I just anneal every fourth or fifth shot. After fireforming in a specific chamber, I just re-use them in that same gun, and they don't even need trimming unless the load is WAY TOO hot.

When using the neck sizer, we are only resizing the neck, and ARE NOT bumping the shoulder back?
Tell me so. I just answered the question. Just pointed out there isn’t a true or false answer. I can see some advantage since most who neck size end up using either FL die or body die to bump the shoulders back, why not do it in one step. BECAUSE yoyos like me seem to think the more they " tweek" the brass and the round.. the more accurate it will be.. which is a total myth..... so its developed into the old back up answer... because we've ALWAYS done it this way.. Why do you ask? as I frequently say, I was a self taught Graduate at the Fred Flinstone/ Barney Rubble School of Caveman Reloading Academy..

The collet die only touches the neck. I combine with Redding body dies to bump shoulders. Another way around but a lot more expensive is the Forster neck/bump die....

Depends on the die. Standard neck sizer yes, they do make a shoulder bump neck die. I don't think Lee makes a shoulder bump neck die but I know Forster does Not sure exactly what that might be, but Redding makes a FL bushing die that can be fitted with the neck bushing of your choice, and adjusted to bump the shoulder while neck sizing.

That's the combination I used to use to achieve minimum runout. Now I just use a Forster full length sizing die and do it in one step rather than two. How often do you feel the need to do both, rather than just the necks?I typically go two LCD neck sizings, then a body die + LCD.

There is a cheap version of the Lee Collet, Redding Body die combo. Get the 4 die Lee set. It'll have their FL sizer, their Collet Neck sizer, Factory Crimp die and seater. Take the FL die, grind out the neck to clear the case neck and you have a body die. Of course you can go up a caliber in a similar case for body die, i.e. .308 FL can be a 7-08 body die, etc. Here's my grind it myself set up. This one is .22-250. I had to use a worn Dremel carbide bit, small enough to fit in the .224" neck. Those dies are hard, takes some grinding to enlarge the neck enough to clear a case neck. Works great and cheaper than a Redding body die. Have posted this one before. DF
