Been trying to buy a can of Goex ffffg for my flintlock. Found out that it is illegal for a retailer to ship it to NJ. It's illegal to buy it out-of-state and bring it into the state. Called almost every gun shop in south Jersey - nobody carries it because of the expensive permits that are required. Finally found a shop about an hour away that still sells black powder. Drove right over there, and almost passed out when I saw the price: $54.95 per pound!!!! Shop owner told me he pays $9,000 in permit fees to sell powder per year. And he said when his current stock is sold, he doesn't know when or IF he will be able to get more. Also told me to keep the receipt because I might be getting a visit from the Feds!

I had no choice but to buy it. No other options. Oh well, a pound of priming powder should last me a loooong time!

Moral of the story: stay out of the Peoples Republic of New Jersey.

Yes, sorry to say. I'm up in northern NJ, not far from NY State. Gun shops there usually have what I need.

It's not that big of a state. Does one ever venture out? My county (Harney) is bigger than your state.

Got into the BPCR game a couple years back and had 25 lbs delivered to my Oregon door. No Feds involved, but did see our local sheriff drive by a couple weeks back.

the consolidation of the states into one vast republic, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of that ruin which has overwhelmed all those that have preceded. Robert E Lee

Black powder can be hard to get but that is crazy. Just curious: why would the Feds (ATF?) visit you for a state issue?

You boys in Jersey have my sympathy. I am lucky in that I live fairly close to Dixons muzzle loading shop located in Kempton Pa. They carry just about everything you could ever need. Greg Dixon is very knowledgeable and always provides top notch service. I have purchased 4-f over the years many times not sure if they still sell it in small containers plastic squeeze bottles containing several ounces. Pa. has a much more relaxed attitude concerning propellant's of all types. I have never been asked to fill out any paper work or even provide ID.at any outlet when purchasing powder.

Best thing I ever did was leave NJ forever!

I don't believe they'll have you visited by the "Feds", that's just more Jersey scare tactics! My only surprise is Murphy doesn't have them telling you black powder makes you more suspeptable to the China Virus.Get out while you can. The "exit tax" isn't that high of a tax yet.

My guess you wouldn't have a hard time finding it on the Pa side. Not aware of anyone having difficulty.

There is an Exit Tax if you want to leave. Painful.
