Hello to all--Anyone have a bit of the history on the older model Savage 14 rifle, ie production dates, how they stacked up. Also the newer Model 14 American Classic Model. How they differed from the earlier 14's and how they stacked up as a shooter. How did both compare with the Model 110? Were they a less frills, cheaper alternative like the Remington 700 ADL vs the higher priced 700 BDL? Would like to get a 14 in .223. See some of the 14's and American classic's around once in a while or on gun selling sites, but never in .223 caliber. Like wood stocks, not really geared to the onslaught of plastic stocks and laminated (although some of the laminated aren't bad, better than plastic IMO and want). Any info-thank ya much.

The 14 and 114 were just 11's and 110's with lipstick. Performance would be the same.

The 14 and 114 were just 11's and 110's with lipstick. Performance would be the same. This sums it up. I had a 14 American Classic in .308, had a beautiful stock and the bluing was well done. Shot really good, too. But no better than an 11 or 16, and the synthetic stock and Stainless steel fits my idea of what I want in a rifle, so the 14 went down the road for a Ruger Hawkeye All-Weather in .308, which I still have.

Reference my Savage 14 search. Several weeks ago I picked up a almost like new Model 14 American Classic in .223 Remington. Bought from a gunshop seller who was selling it for a customer selling some of the guns in his late fathers estate. Son of owner advised his Dad had bought it new a few years back and didn't really shoot it that much. The looks and condition tell that story, was able to buy at very reasonable price also, less than I've seen other 14 American Classic's selling for online. Really nice looking rifle, talked with Savage rep and advised according to serial number it was made in March 2012, the last year Savage offered the 14 Classic in any .224 caliber. It came with steel mounts. Bought a set of Leupold PRW2 rings and a Leupold VX-3i 3.5x10x40 scope to mount. Been to busy to get mounted, but plan on doing so this week. Happy camper am I. Look out Iowa coyotes this winter!!!!
