I have picked up several hundred rounds of purple 223 brass at the shooting range. I read it is reloadable with no issues. I tumbled it to where it is barely purple and just for fun, have tried it in my bolt and AR 15 rifles. I find it is easy to load and accurate. I am loading 26 grains of WC 846 and 60 Vmaxs. Watch out prairie dogs.

Appear to be plated brass. The Border Patrol guys have been shooting them, picked a couple up, took them home and cut one off with a pair of tin snips. Appears to be brass underneath. They dont stick to a magnet either. I didnt consider reloading them, but sounds like they will work.

WINCHESTER LE TRAINING 223 REMINGTON 62 GRAIN OPEN TIP-Q3340 Winchester Q3340 223 Ammo is not only is it incredibly functional and accurate, it’s PURPLE! Produced as training ammunition for a major US Federal law enforcement agency, the unique purple brass shellcasing provides immediate visual reference for range officers. The brass casing on this ammo features a special treatment rendering it purple. Completely reloadable and function exactly as standard brass casings. Designed for target shooting or plinking at the range, the ammunition features an open tip bullet and is non-corrosive. Even if you never shoot it, you won’t regret owning a unique piece of Americana!

Talked to a local purveyor about it a few months ago. Purple is gov't contract overun. To me it looked like steel where the purple had rubbed off. But that could be residual dye. But the shop owner couldn't confirm. I know the White box 556 practice ammo is brass. Olin has the SS practice ammo contract for .556.
Edit: per HD They have a contract for BP/DHLS but last I saw it was 9mm

I haven't seen any 9mm but I have seen lots of 40. It isn't steel for sure, not magnetic. Cut it open and it looks like brass. I have loaded and shot it with no problems.

Just an update. I shot about 300 rounds using this brass on my pd hunt with no issues at all. I will load it again for round 2 and see how it goes.

I will have to see if the local guy still has any. Almost cheaper than new brass...

know someone locally who uses it to load into his 20 Practical...
I played with some he gave me... loaded a group of 10, for a total of 20 times...
its as good as any other Win or Rem brass you may use....
