Don't really remember.
All kind of farm stuff, a 70's Chevy and 60's International pickups with 3 on the tree
stick out on the farms. 1st car with license was a '67 Impala with 3 on the column.

Now that setup is theft proof.
Hell in the dark, anyone of us would be fooled if it was parked in reverse.
The newest thing I remember with that setup was an 80 Ford pickup.

I started in my parents 1977 Caprice Classic mafia mobile. My first car was a '68 Pontiac Catalina with the big ol' 400 in it. You could have square danced in the trunk on that land yacht. My first 4 WD was a 66 Jeep Wagoneer with the old Pontiac 230 Tornado straight six in it. We bought it sitting in a farm field. Took a case of Raid to evict all the wasps. Man, we had some good times in that old crate. The floor boards in the back seat were rotted out. Anyone in back got a complimentary mud bath when we went riding in the stirp mines. After we went mudding, I'd go to the self service car wash, roll down the windows, open the doors, and hose it out. Ahh, the memories!

Ha! My grandfather had the same model! He would send me to the store for drinks and snacks for the folks working in the tobacco field. 14 years old, thought I owned the world even though it was only about 2 miles.

Later my dad had a 67 chev straight six, the shifter was worn out, it you didn't go from 1st to 2nd just right it hang up between gears. We finally rebuilt the column and transmission.

Did my drivers license test in my mom's 73 Electra 225, after I nailed the parallel park the guy said take me back that's all I need to see.

In addition to learning to shift gears, we did it with no power steering or brakes. You learned to be moving a little to make it easier to steer. Try parallel park a full size sedan with manual steering!

I learned to drive a farm tractor long before I every got behind the wheel.of a truck or car. I did eventually start driving a truck on our farm. My dad bought the local Pontiac Cadillac and GMC truck dealership and I got a lot of practice driving back and forth between the lot and the wash bay as well as learning to maneuver in tight spaces in the shop. Did a lot of backing with trailers and wagons On the farm. By the time I was 16 I was a pretty good driver.

48 8-N ford tractor, I-H truck 5 speed on the floor 2 speed rear end Don't remember what year it was,

Learned driving my Grandfather around with 2 horses in the back checking pastures, Grandad, didn't drive he rode a horse were ever he went, when we were in 1st gear he would rock like a slow moving horse 2nd he would rock like a slow jog or trot 3 rd gear he would be loping, if I got to 4th he would yell " what the Hell do you think this is a flying machine" It was about 75 miles around the mesa pastures with loading and unloading horses and checking salt boxes, water, it made for a long day for a kid, Rio7

Learned on a 1947 International hay truck. It had a big rack that came over
the the top of the cab and fastened on two uprights up from the front bumper.
Was tough because no synchromesh. Guess it worked.

Sure did. Say I guess I learned on a tractor before that. I still have an 8N whose
manufacture date Oct 1950 coincides with the the Mrs' birthday in two weeks.
Tractor given no more trouble than her, both darn good!

Wabigoon: I learned on both a 1952 Ford Pickup and a 1960 Ford Pickup. Both "standard" transmission models.
I have lived in a remote corner of Montana for the last 23 years and both my VarmintSons learned to drive via my instruction and at classes in their high school.
And the amazing part was they both learned to drive and then earned their drivers licenses after having NEVER stopped a car at a red/yellow/green stoplight!
At the time (2,005) our county had NO standard model stoplights - sadly we have two of the red/yellow/green stop and go lights in our county (largest county in Montana!) now (progress - yuck!).

Learned to drive in a 1932 Ford Model B pickup with utility box. My 1st car was a 1949 Ford 4-door for which I paid $65.

How many of you drove a school bus?
I got my bus license as a Jr in HS.

Only did the substitute driver thing.

IMuch worse than having an actual regular route.
