Our Honey Half-Lab was vastly entertaining the last couple days.
Wife bought herself a used (503 miles, 93 hours) 2018 Yamaha Kodiak 700 a couple weeks back and insisted that she "learn to ride it". The local trails weren't good enough- I had to un-winterize the camper, modify a trailer hitch to fit behind it, wire up a pigtail connection allowing for the camper extenstion for that trailer, then travel 60 miles OW to the "good" trails. And now I'm going to have to buy a pressure washer....
Nice machine, very clean except for a cut in the seat. Kid is turning 16 and wants a car or pickup. He upgraded the machine with hand heaters, winch, low range mod (like the next one up "Grizzly?" has), super mudder tires, for a mere 7900- we got 100 off for the seat tear.
Probably a fair price, but no bargain. And I don't have to listen to her whine about it anymore....
Two years + ago I acquired Honey HalfLab - a village resue dog, at that time 18 months old (approx) . She literally knew nothing - I thought she was a bit on the slow side, but it was ignorance - on both our parts. After all, how much can you learn at the end of a chain with little or no positive experiences, attention, interaction? Thrown firecrackers and shot with BB guns....fuggin kids...
From a very gun/noise shy dog, she has done a 179 degree turn around. Loud noises no longer bother her, especially gun shots. She still doesn't "like" guns, nor anything - even a stick or camera- pointed at or even near her, but a few days ago I was working in the garage and she was sitting "pointing" the gun cabinet that I keep out there, with whatever I'm working or about to work on. I knew what she wanted... She may very well be the smartest dog I've ever had, and I thought my first and last Labs were darned smart!
She was up on the deck another day when I check-sighted the pellet rifle. At the shot, she bailed off the deck, down the stairs, across the yard and started looking for the grouse that was supposed to be there. Her first grouse hunt I had to teach her everything...her 2nd time out it was "Boss- I GOT this!". So much for gun-shy.... I'm going with the 20 now., skipping the .22.
Now back to the ATV's. The first dozen of so times I gave her a ride on my 2005 Rancher 2 years ago , I had to fight her to get her up and to stay there. Since then she hasn't resisted , but I still had to lift her up.
This trip, she came right over and jumped up on the seat in front of me. That lasted until the first time we stopped. She jumped off, ran over and leaped up on the Yamaha's seat, where she wanted to be for the rest of our two day trip. Every time I wanted/made her to ride with me, she acted like I was about to beat her....
Self up-graded her seat, the fickle bitch!
Did I say that she thinks she should be a "Princess", and not a Half-Lab?
I should have a picture(s) on the phone....if I can find the damned thing.
She doesn't like to have anything pointed at her.
