I read Steve's description of a mount he made for the Enfield No4. It was a neat solution. Looking in the Epps catalog of 1965, there was a very similar mount imported from Australia. It used the same angle shape, however it had dovetails milled on to clamp rings too. Has anyone ever seen one of those, seems like the perfect mount. I don't care for the mounts available, they are either to high, clumsy or both. I'd like to track one of those Aussie mounts down.

For some reason, mounts come and go for Lee Enfield rifles. This is an excerpt from my book on the 30-303. http://www.303british.com/id95.htmlI must emphasize that these aren't the only mounts available - just most of them. Some can be pricy! Commercial Mounts
I cannot vouch for any of the no-gunsmithing mounts. I have only used the Weaver TO-1 and angle iron mounts.
Weaver TO-1 Mount – An aluminum mount that requires drilling and tapping. The TO-1 mount has been made for a long time. It attaches to the charger bridge and the barrel using four screws.
Fulton No 4 Mount – A no gunsmithing all steel mount. Made in the UK. They are expensive, but I have never heard or read a bad review about them. www.fultonsofbisley.com
Armalon Mount – An aluminum, no gunsmithing mount. Made in the UK. Less expensive than the Fulton Mount. Like the Fulton, all reviews were good. www.armalon.com
ATI Mount – An aluminum, no gunsmithing mount. Made in the USA. www.atigunstocks.com
S&K Mount – An aluminum, no gunsmithing mount. Made in the USA. www.scopemounts.com

I would like to mount a scope on my Santa Fe 1941 Supreme. The action had the charger bridge removed, so no gunsmithing mounts won't work. That's why the simple side mount looked so appealing. Thanks for the info, I'll keep checking. The rifle does not have strong collector interest, so a professional mounting job would not affect value.

There may be someone who can side mount, so I would contact Brian Dick. http://bdlltd.com and ask about a side mount. He doesn't normally do work like this, but may be able to point you in the right direction. bdlltd bellsouth.net Brian is in SC.

I have the same rifle have been trying for a few years to find someone who could put a scope mount on it. Its too bad. The rifle is surprisingly accurate.

I'm sure someone knows it won't work but I have a forward mount that has a Leupold Scout scope. Works well for me. The barrel is turned down over the chamber and rear part of the barrel and a tube with the cheese grater is slid over the barrel. Then tighten some grub screws or epoxy it in. The stock will have to be inletted a bit but not much. Seems to work nicely for me and the peep sights work with QD rings and scope removed. In the rain or a wet snow you can just carry the scope for the day, put it quickly on if the need arises. Be Well, RZ.
