The second season for unit 13 opened yesterday. Caribou everywhere. Found a group of 50 kind of bunched together. This cow was clear of the others with no calf nearby and no danger of a pass through hitting another animal. Took the 150 yard shot with my pack hanging off one shoulder but got the high lung and underside of the spine. Dropped on the spot. Didn't have time to shed the pack as they had spotted me and some were acting antsy like they wanted to cut and run. Took my old friend and trusted companion, the 700 KS Mountain Rifle in 300 H&H with a 220 grain Partition over 64 grains of IMR 4350. Hard to beat for an Alaska load. One and a half inch exit and not a lot of bloodshot. Pretty much what I've come to expect from that bullet. Oh, and you're thinking there's no way that makes B&C. Wrong book. Boom and Crockpot is the book to which I was referring.

I love it!
The two caribou I've killed tasted pretty darn good when I got them home.

That is the only book to try and make in my opinion. Meat is where it is at for me when I go hunting. Horns just give you something to stir the stew with.

Both mine made B&C in that case, back in August.
One was a calf.
And I'm stealing that.
