Was looking around at rifles and surprised to see Tikka T3x models now cost as much as/more than Winchester model 70’s. Hell, those new Tikka Veil camo models are going for about the same price as Model 70 Supergrades.
Are the Tikkas priced too high now? Priced where they should be? At comparable prices, is the Model 70 the no-brainer?
Thoughts?

I can still get blue Tikka's for $600, SS is $750. About the cheapest model 70 I can find is just under $900. The SS 70 Extreme weathers are $1000+
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

Blued Sporters and FWTs are routinely on sale for $795 online. TSS usually has quite a few with free shipping.
I'd always thought the point of the Tikka was how accurate it came *for the price*. But if I can pay the same or less for an accurate rifle -- all 3 of my FWTs shoot MOA with factory ammo -- with metal parts and nice wood and good checkering and CRF, then the Tikka doesn't have the same value. (I know some folks don't care about wood, but seems like everyone here who gets a Tikka ends up dropping another $200 on new bottom metal, etc.) Not saying anything is wrong with a Tikka... hopefully I won't wake up next to a horse head 😂😇

I always thought the attraction was mainly that they don’t require any futzing around with to shoot great. Low price was just another raisin in the cookie. Don't have any, but the couple used ones I’ve handled were impressively smooth, and the machining looked very good. Changes made to the X-models are positives. Not looking at anything right now, but sometimes rifles just happen.
The new M70s are nice too, but I find myself with three Mausers and a Hawkeye, so my CRF bases are covered.
What fresh Hell is this?

They were a buy at 500 bucks. Now way overpriced. They are accurate and smooth but taking one apart made me less impressed. Bent spring holding the mag in and the lug in the stock like a 259 dollar axis.
No thanks for $799

I agree that the prices are now too high for all that plastic - I owned a good number of tikka’s... but not anymore given the price.

Whatever the market will bear. When sales go down so will the price but not until. Yep. Their bean counting & marketing sleuths must've been monitoring the Campfire's Tikka evangelist’s posts and they too fell for and started to believe the hype.

Do these more expensive models come with bottom metal, etc? Are they (or any of the models) factory bedded? Sounds like lots of people re-bed Model 70s, but mine have shot well enough with the factory skim that I just left them alone for now.

You should try it over here Gents.
T3X Lites are generally advertised in the order of £900.00 and Lite Stainless at £1,100.00 although it doesn't bother me too much as I have never been a fan.
Kind regards,
Tim

Tikka's reputation for out of the box reliability and accuracy is very well deserved, and well earned. They started the trend well over 20 yrs ago and many others have tried to play catch up. Whether the new retail prices are worth it are up to the individual, but to say it is "hype" is quite frankly a joke.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

The Tikka Reputation was “BOUGHT” by Beretta - who’s reputation is otherwise. Beretta Management is better at selling, but not better at making great marketing decisions, or even production decisions.
The SBE 3 is now Crap... compared to the original SBE .. Thank you Beretta But yes it’s what the market will bare in terms of pricing - the only reason Tikka is now so high priced is that the Beretta management wasn’t allowed to screw up the workers at the TIkka plant for some reason - that person did a good thing... I’m sure they had opponents internally at Beretta..

I can buy a NIB Tikka T3x Superlite ( Sportsmans Warehouse version) for $750.00 or if i have a little patience wait till Sportsmans runs them on sale for $699.00 while the best I can do for a Winchester Mod 70 Extreme Weather is about $250.00 higher.. there are several new T3x models that are much more pricey but the new more expensive models are not my cup of tea ...we will see how that goes....Hb

Yep. That’s been my complaint about Tikkas. All along. they’re nice rifles and function smooth. Some are accurate some are not. The stocks are junk. Here is my Win M70 FWT BACO in .280 Rem. For the price I’ll take it over a Tikka every time.

For the price I’ll take it over a Tikka every time. Tikka's have a better barrel, trigger and better overall workmanship . I have never seen a Tikka not shoot. The Tikka stock is probably better then about any synthetic stock out there. Those are facts.

I consider Tikka's as the Glock pistols of the rifle world, they aint pretty but I like em because they are lightweight, functional and accurate hunting tools. I will always keep a Superlite .300 Win in my safe for a chitty day hunting rifle 👍......Good hunting...Hb
