I’m by no means an authority on this subject, Joseph von Benedikt on his Backcountry Hunting podcasts had a podcast (2020 March #64) in which he compared the .280 Ackley to the 7mm Rem mag. I thought it was interesting and informative. What were the points you found informative?

I have a couple 280’s, a 280AI, and a couple 7mm RM’s.
I like the three cartridges about equal. All but one are 700’s, my favorite.
The 700 7mm RM is the easiest of these rifles to shoot accurately with a variety of bullets, including 168 gr ABLR.
The 280’s shoot very well too. The 280 AI was bout with a fast twist - for low drag bullets.
If I had to choose to keep only one, it may likely be the 7mm RM. But that wouldn’t be an easy decision.
The 280 AI easily cost twice any of the other rifles. But it has too heavy a barrel to be practical for general hunting and I haven’t spent enough time developing loads for it.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Well since I knew nothing about the .280 Ackley, how it came to be, accuracy, recoil, why some like it, why some don’t. In my situation it was worth the time to listen.

Why does everyone love the 280 AI? I shoot the std 280 Remington and like it a lot. I love my 280's. I have a couple of 280 AI's but only due to the want of the gun as they are hybrid customs. Had they been 280 Remington I still would'a bought them. I am pretty neutral on the matter. Granted the AI's run more velocity but it is negligible in a hunting scenario.
