I just came from a gunshop here in western Montana and as I was finishing the paperwork on my first Cooper Rifle I looked at the gunrack and a newly placed used Rifle was there and the red recoil pad got my attention. When I finished I walked over and picked it up and was amazed at the wonderful condition this older Ruger #1-B was in! If I was not about $2,000.00 "lighter" right then I would have bought it instantly. The bluing was flawless - including the muzzle not a percentage of wear at all there. The wood was VERY pleasing with grain stripes running horizontally and vertically both (IIRC). There were NO rings on the Rifle and the action was tight as could be I do not know if it comes with rings - I did NOT try the trigger. The ONLY flaw I could find in the Rifle was on the left side of the butt-stock a small slight indentation ran for an inch or so horizontally as the Rifle is held horizontally - I bet it would steam out it was the width of less than a #2 pencil lead. The red pad was hard as a Rock but unblemished or un-nicked. Anyone interested, before I get back there on the last business day of the month (when I get my monthly allowance from the VarmintWife!), would be well served to buy this older but minty Ruger #1-B. The price tag was $699.99 (maybe they meant to write $999.99?) and remember there is NO sales tax in Montana! The phone number of the store is 406-682-4210 and they have a website listing their inventory at Shedhorn Sports.com or something like that. The Rifle is on "consignment" and I have NO idea who actually owns it. The shop is 76 miles from my home (each way!) but if I can answer any questions I will happily do so. One of the countermen is computer savy and may be able to send you a picture. I bought a Ruger #1-B from them last month in caliber 204 Ruger it was previously owned/used but minty and came with outstanding "special order wood" and I happily paid $1,050.00 for that gem. Anyway on Friday October 30th my mad money will be refreshed and if it has not sold by then I will buy it as an investment, if nothing else. Long live the Ruger #1. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Cascade: I have bought three guns this month totaling just at $3,000.00! I am flat broke or I would have returned for this Rifle already. Two of my retirement funds burp up to me on the last business day of the month (this Friday October 30th) and my VarmintMobile will be in high gear headed the 75 miles to the gunshop in question with my my monthly allowance in hand on that day! I just hope it is still there. This 30/06 #1-B will be my eighth currently owned Ruger #1 and the few other Ruger #1's I have owned and errantly sold, I sure wish I had back. Long live the Ruger #1. Chopaka81: I used to fish in a Lake Chopaka out Washington state way when I lived there. Is that perhaps the source of your "monicker" here on the CampFire? Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Alaninga: That is probably a very prudent policy! Buy first - ask questions later. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
