Have a 23D my grandfather gave to me. Haven't messed around with it much. Not a pretty rifle by any means but thinking about using it while calling fox. Would it be a good rifle for that? Do they shoot decently? Accuracy? Using an Anshultz 22 wmr atm but the hornet would extend range a bit
Thank you for any input

You might PM Rick99, as he has a lot of experience with the Savage Sporter series rifles.
22 Hornets work fine on foxes and 'cats, as they are quite a bit less robust than coyotes.

I've had one for years. It's been a great rifle. I've killed about everything up to deer with it. Shoot me a P.M and and I'll dig up some recipes - I hope you reload.

I'm pretty sure all the 23D's are .223. I Think the early Winchester 43's are also.

I have one that was turned into a K Hornet, but has chamber issues and is a wall hanger now. Me and my cousins shot it a lot when we were kids.

The Savage 23 series was the sporter version of the Model 19 .22 LR target rifle that won the smallbore rifle gold medal at the 1920 Olympics. Your rifle was probably quite accurate when it was made, for its time at least. I'd have to take it to the range and see what it would do if it were mine.
My grandfather left me his M19 when he died in 1972. I shot it for years until I couldn't see the sights and went to a scoped rifle. Then I had cataract surgery and I'm using it again. Good minute of squirrel rifle, especially with CCI SGB ammo.
