I know it's come up now and then, but I'm in the market for a couple pairs of hunting pants.

Specifications .. I need a 36-38 inch waist, 29-30 inch inseam .. actual measurement, not advertised measurement. I'm 5'9", 200 pounds. I'm hunting in fairly warm conditions .. it's going to hit 80 here today. So insulated stuff is out. At the same time, the super thin stuff is just as "out" 'cause it was 34 this morning. I'm a still hunter, pretty much walk all day. It is pretty steep .. Oregon Cascade range. I need a material that is durable, handles stick jabs, brush, etc.

Colors ... something that will blend somewhat with high elevation fir forest, camo made of darker gray, black, and maybe green, or solid dark green.

Ideas?

I would point you to Kuiu Attach pants, a little pricey but they are great pants for what you have described. They have side vents that have helped moderate temps when they get above 65 degrees.

I give up. For some reason I can't get a link to work, but they are 5.11 Stryke pants.

I've 2 pairs, battle brown and tundra. They are a poly/cotton blend that stretches when you walk. They don't have a baggy fit, but are great for moving around in rugged terrain. They dry fast if wet and are pretty rugged.

They aren't real thick, but that isn't an issue for me. I've worn them in similar hunting conditions in temps in the low teens and was comfortable. They ain't cheap, but aren't as expensive as a lot of hunting specific pants.

I’m a big fan of Eddie Bauer’s Guide Pro pants. Ultra comfortable and one of the best values out there. EB commonly runs 40-50% off sales on them and they are available in some good muted colors....there is also a lined version.

I have Kuiu and First Lite pants and I find that I grab the EB’s more often than not....

Agree with kuiu attack. My go-to.

If the last few years is any indication and you're hunting somewhere in State of Jefferson, I'd go with fire proof nomex.

i agree on KUIU pants. I use Attacks most of the time. Tiburons in warmer weather.

Prana zions for lightweight comfortable and water repellent, if cotton blend doesnt bother you and hunting mostly dry conditions then the 5.11 stryke pants mentioned above are great, actually wearing them right now.

I don't know if its still available in its original form, but Cabela's Microtex was good, durable, stuff. I really liked it for early season hunting and spring bear. Quiet and tough for a good price.

If going when its a bit colder, add a lightweight layer underneath. My kids wore it in 70 degree days with no layer underneath to snow on the ground with a layer.

I have 3 favourites, depending on weather: warm- the Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide Pro is great, cool- Kuiu Attack Pant, cold- Sporthill Expedition pant. And for extreme cold, Milsurp heavy wool pants.

Yep, a bit warm if over 70 then grab pranas or wranglers.

I throw on some wool underwear and wealth attacks down into the 20's if fairly active

Wranger Rustlers for me, unless it's snowing/raining or there's more than about 6" of snow already on the ground. If I nut up and go to HellMart, I can sometimes find them for $10-12.

For warm to cool weather I've had good luck with Sitka Ascent pants, just adjust my base layer underneath depending on temps; fit is relaxed, two large cargo pockets, deep pockets, but no rear pockets. They've been pretty damn sturdy, especially considering the fabric weight, but I did suffer the my first tear this past weekend after two years of pretty hard hunting- about a 3" tear in the thigh near the knee (crawling over/under/around one of the most hellish blowdown messes ever!!)- sending in to have it repaired.

I wish they still made those.

My advice is to wear them unless it's very warm, then go Tarzan.

I am still a hit the army navy surplus for some ripstop cammies. I love em, take all that pricey stuff out of my face!

I hiked a lot this past weekend i. SW Va. Morning was in the early 30s, midday hit 65 then cold again at night. Climbed some steep hills and covered a lot of ground.

I've done similar hikes in jeans and in coveralls with long johns underneath. Sweating and ultimately chafing became an issue.

Kuiu Attack pants are great! Just got a pair and tried them out this weekend. The vents allowed for noticeable airflow, no chafing and a much more comfortable walk. Waist is very comfortable, good pockets and water resistant.

Looking forward to seeing how they do during cold late muzzleloader.

I’ve been wearing microtex pants for 15 years. Cant see the need to buy anything else they are really tough and long lasting. I do wear the “light” version for early archery elk. November I just wear regular microtex with long underwear below. They dry pretty quick, cut wind good and breathe. gave up on my goretex pants even in the cold and rain. Hard shell rain gear pants if it gets real bad but I almost never wear them even in heavy rain. Cant seem to want to pony up for the $300 first light unpronounceables. My buddy’s are full of holes and stitching after just a couple seasons.
