I currently have four 270’s. Killed two elk with ‘em this year. If Trump needs one to get him over the top I’d gladly gift it to him........

I once read a very well known gun scribe write about it as being a damned adequate coyote rifle....or very close to that! I don’t recall ever shooting a yotie with one but if I point it right it kills deer very danged adequately.

I’d give my person 270 away as well if it got Trump his 270.....and it is among my very favorites 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

How many guns did Elmer blow up? I'm not sure if the tally is confidence-instilling.

What about a M70 Sporter? Only a 4 ounces heaver than a Featherweight.

Sure. Being kinda old and creaky kinda inclines me towards lightweight stuff. The sporter would be all steel too, IIRC.

Lotsa good choices, actually. Those two were just on top of the stack.

Not many choices if you're looking for a CRF.

There’s more if you aren’t wedded to new ones. Both mine are FNs, a 1948, and one likely built anytime from the 50’s to possibly 1970 or so. The 1948 is a pig at about 9 3/4 pounds, but the other is more reasonable at something over 8. Anyway, I don’t recall the OP specifying CRF.

I’d consider a Kimber or Tikka too.

Yep. I was referring to new production, but I definitely agree that a used commercial FN or a custom Mauser would certainly be sweet. If you keep yer eyes open a good one will come along. Finding one for the right price, though, is the trick. I've been keeping my eye out for a pre-64, 1909 Argentine, Oberndorf, K98, VZ-24...

After a bit of trial and error, I think I finally have the Mausers I want for my old age, when it comes 😛. The old custom was a real steal; my smith said he’d have to charge a couple K just for the stock, which I’d just never do. Bottom metal and M70 safety would cost about what I paid for the whole dang rifle.

The latest is a Heym .308 that’s very light, 6lbs 8.8oz with a small red dot on the receiver ring like the driven boar guys use. i really like the way it comes up, and a month spent toting a crossbow wearing a dot around has me convinced it’s a workable combo for the timber. The action on this one is very slick.

I like my other rifles just fine, but there’s just something about about that big hunk of machined, forged steel......

Sure hope for all our sakes that President Trump prevails in this mess. My longest owned centerfire rifle, a Ruger M77 270 WIN my wife bought me first year we were married - it's been killing deer for 43 seasons now (did put a new 3.5-10 scope on it last year).
