Not a gun writer, but pretty familiar with Savage 24's.
The 24V was their centerfire model so any rimfire model is not a 24V.
Rimfire models were 22 over 410, 22 over 20, 22 mag over 410 and 22 mag over 20.
24V's were first introduced in 1967, .222 Remington over 20 gauge was the only offering that year. In following years others were introduced: .223 over 20 30-30 over 20 357 mag over 20 357 MAX over 20 ***** edit to say I forgot the .22 hornet over 20 gauge
Just prior to going into Chapter 11 in the late 80's, they introduced a 24V in 30-30 over 12 gauge, hardwood furniture, screw in chokes, crossbolt safety, and scrollwork on the side of the receiver identical to the 24F which they came out with after reorganization.
The 24V in 30-30 over 12 is rather interesting in that the gun is not marked 24V, just Savage 24, and the box is marked 24V. That particular gun I do believe was the forrunner of the 24F with tupperware stocks. I spoke to an old timer at the Savage factory years ago and he told me the 24V in 30-30 over 12 was a rather rare bird in that they didn't make to many of them before going into Chapter 11 and reorganizing.

My 12/30-30 shoots well and has a good trigger. Very useful combination.

The 24V also came on 22 Hornet over 20. The F's came in 17 Hornaday and the others over 20 and 12, I believe. Bfly

It's worth mentioning that while the 12 ga 24s offer a versatile combo gun, they are heavy as heck. I'd rather carry a 20 ga & rifle barrel around.

My dream gun was a Savage 24 in 22 Magnum / 20 ga. Finally found one, a fixer-upper for a good price. Cleaned it up, removed the rust, found missing parts, refinished metal and wood and was happy with it. Finally my dream had come true! Shortly thereafter I moved and did a full inventory. I found not one, but two other 22 Mag/20 ga Savage 24s that I had bought 16 and 8 years prior.

I have owned several Savage 24s, both with rimfire and centerfire rifle barrels. None of them shot the rifle and shotgun barrels to the same place. One example is the first I purchased at age 16, a .22 Magnum/20 gauge. The shotgun barrel patterned so high I had to remember to hold a couple feet low on typical 30-35 yard shots.
Have heard of some that worked better, and some models could be adjusted for point of impact. But I eventually gave up and bought drillings with two shotgun barrels and a rifle barrel instead--and so far all have patterned where I look, and where the rifle barrel shoots.

I have 22 LR over 20 gauge. It belonged to my grandfather and I will not part with it. My youngest son used it a couple of years ago to take his first squirrel.

I have a 22 mag over 410. It was given to me with a broken toe on the stock and rust all over the outside. The bore in both barrels was good and everything worked. I refinished it and cleaned up the trigger as best I could. Mounted a 2x7 Leupold on it and it is the most accurate rimfire I have ever shot but only with the 40 grain win. loads. Other stuff is about 2" at best. I bought a 1000 rounds of what it likes. The shotgun barrel shots about 6" lower than the crosshairs at 25 yards. It's my dedicated "ranch gun" and has killed lots of small game, coyotes and one pig with a round at the base of the ear. Ugly gun that does it all.

I have an early 22/410 that was my fathers first gun sometime in the late 40's to mid 50's (he was born in 1939). It's my favorite grouse gun in nice weather as it has none of the original finish left and will rust with the slightest of rain. Both barrels shoot to the exact same point at grouse range.
