When I see someone jumping up and down saying this or that is the best, and all else are inferior; what I see is... "Hey, I'm very insecure and I need the validation of others...and because I'm so insecure, I'm going to start a fight with anyone who doesn't agree at my definition of best".

Buy quality, buy what you like: There, you now have "THE BEST".

In this modern age of mass-communication, we seem to forget the basic premise that not all words mean the same thing to all people, and that to communicate effectively, we should generally begin by defining our terms. "Best" is a fine term, IMO, if defined and qualified.

As long as you're not running something on your new platform that will make it tactical while bragging the thing is minute-of-bad-guy accurate and will outshoot you all day long, you're off to a good start. Definitely don't pronounce your expertise on bear killing calibers, especially having never hunted or shot one. Better yet, if the 9mm is your end-all be-all to stopping power, you should shave off your beard, buy some real jeans and ask your grandpa what "there's no replacement for displacement" means as it applies to calibers. And finally, if all your guns with fixed sights came from the factory POA/POI, you need to know one thing, you're a crappy shot.

High quality guns are not that expensive. For example, Pardini GT .45 or 9x19 pistol can be bought for <$3000. wink

I despise absolutes.

Best/worst....

How do they know.

You can't be sure of that unless you have become proficient with every iteration of
every competitor. With several individuals of each to be sure you have
found the average for each.

People like to say they KNOW,
when in actuality they just believe.

Am BEST at shooting mountains, valleys, canyons and the side of barns with ANY gun. My accuracy results diminish as the size of the target diminishes and its distance becomes greater.

Don't ask me about my military service or heroic acts...most of it is untrue.

A fellow that worked hard and had a hard time getting the funds to buy a keltec PF-9, might be the subject of humiliating banter here, why I even admit I am guilty of disparaging various guns, but if this is all he can afford to protect his family then that's the "best" for him.

Of all the people I have ever met, I am the best at telling what is best for me.....for now.

Might be best better to say "favorite" instead of "best".

Every gun I own is the best or I would not have bought it. If it is not the best after I have shot it then I find somebody that thinks it would be the best for them. I have found over the years that the guy that says "this is the best gun" really is looking for someone to tell them they are right to validate their purchase. I buy what suits me and if someone agrees then OK, but if nobody thinks the same as me then that is OK also because in about 10 years I will sell it for more than I bought it for because it will be a collector then. Unless it is a HK VP70 then nobody will ever want one of those boat anchors.

Except sometimes my favorite is not the best.

I'm okay with "best" which I see as some combination of quality, purpose, and value that leaves a lot of room for individual preferences. Quite often I settle or make concessions for something less for one reason or another.

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.
