any secret to removing putty or epoxy from a set of match pistol grips that were fitted to a previous owner?

I'm no gunsmith, so take this for what it's worth. I do work in the composites industry, though, and from time to time we have to remove epoxy from different things. Most epoxies used in the gunsmithing world are low Tg (glass transition temperature) resins, meaning they soften at relatively low temperatures. Therefore, I would try to heat the area with a heat gun and at the same time, scrape the epoxy away from the grip when it softens. Don't get it too hot or the epoxy will char and burn and that is probably too hot for the grips. Another alternative would be to carefully scrape it away with a heated soldering iron with the correct tip. Hope that helps.

if you get a crevice started or a minor crack where the epoxy is separated from the grips, apply vinegar in hopes that it will soak in the crack. Sometimes that will help soften the surface contact. You have to keep soaking the vinegar while you f--k with it, so to speak. I've remove old epoxy from scope rings and bases this way.

I would like to make the grips on my Hammerli 280 fit my hand better but this the reason why I haven’t. Is there a product that one could use to make a spot more hand filling without being permanent? I have seen grips with epoxy added but over time your hands change and it would need to be removed easily and redone.
