Back when I used the Roberts a lot,my go to bullet was a 100 gr Partition, and it worked real well on deer/antelope stuff to 400 yards or so,as far as I ever used it.

Been shooting a 257 lately and am curious about results folks are getting with the 100TTSX;they seem to be doing a good job for lots of people in the Roberts.

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I also have a nice example of a Rem 722 in 257 Roberts.
Since I have a Ruger 77 MkII long action 257 Roberts, and shoot 100 grain bullets in it, I decided to use bullets in the 85 to 90 grain weights in the 722.

My 722 shoots the following two loads into 1/2" groups at 100 yards for 3 shots. I used a 24x scope for the testing. These loads are with Fed 210 primers.

44.5 grains of IMR-4350
87 grain Speer TNT, and the 87 Speer sp.

45.0 grains of IMR-4350
Sierra 90 gn HPBT

I did a whole bunch of other load testing with the 722 Bob, but these loads above were the best.
I also set the trigger pull to a crisp 2 1/2 pounds. That helped immensely with shooting good groups.
I have two other Rem 700's in 257 Roberts, both short actions. I just like shooting the lighter weight bullets with these rifles, the 85 to 90 grainers.

Don

Brad, that's what I'm shooting in mine as well. I also use the same charge with 115 grain BT's and get right around 2900fps.

I am new here. . Am doing up some loads for a Ruger 77 MK11 257 Roberts LT. Coal 2.980 & 2.970 with 110gr eld-x bullets. 47.5grs of H4831SC. COAL of 2.990 was starting to look go. Anything longer no good. Any experience with this bullet Sam.

2010 thread. I have found in my limited Roberts experience that the 257 can be picky as to what it likes. What kind of accuracy are you getting?

My Kimber Classic Select 257 is a little finicky and RE19 w/ 100 TTSX's is the best combo I've found so far.

My custom 257 Bob was built with an eye towards Pronghorns and is in fact my dedicated antelope getter.

I load the 110 gr. NAB with 45.5 gr. H4350 with a COAL of 2.970". A very consistent load for me.

After I've punched my tag(s) I then switch to doing a little PD wacking since, heck - I'm already there. For that I load the 75 gr. VMax with 44 gr. H4895.

Too dang much fun.

It's tough to beat 100-120 grain bullets with 4350 in a 257. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Speer 120 grain flat base Spitzer. I know it's discontinued but I shot quite a few mule deer and whitetails with that bullet when I had my first 257 and had great success with it. I buy them any time I see them. I'd have to dig up my old loading notes but I used 4350 almost exclusively with mine back then. My current 257 is an FN Mauser that I finally found a good stock for and will get it shooting this winter. IMR 4350 will be at the top of the list for load tests.

I4350 works for me with 100 grain bullets but for 115-120 grain bullets my rifle shoots best with Reloder 22.

I may have to try some RL22 with this Roberts once I get the stock on it. Back then I tried the 4350 and got a great group and quit working up loads for it. Of course back then I didn't have much money and the gun shop I frequented had several of the one pound, round cardboard containers that just said 4350 on the side. He sold me the five or six he had really cheap and I used a lot of it in the Roberts and the rest in a 30-06 that followed a few years later. I don't recall what the charge was but the 120 grain Speer sure worked well on deer and wasn't too harsh on coyotes.

Those were simpler times back then. Too poor to have a collection, or accumulation, of guns. One rifle had to do it all. The Roberts was a good choice for that at the time.

Heck I am collection poor right now. I have 40 rounds loaded up with the 120 gr. Speer BTSP and if the old Ruger get to play those will be the bullets used.
