I just bought a new Excalibur Mini Xbow and the shafts are 16 3/4" long with a 2" vane, while my older XCAB shoots a 20" shaft with a 4" vane. The bolts are both the same diameter .Anyone know why they went with shorter vanes on shorter bolts?

Blazer are the industry preferred vane to steer a broadhead, right or wrong - not the point here.

Repeatable bow tuning in x-bows and vertical bows has advanced enough that a longer vane is not required to stabilize the arrow / bolt as much as it once was, IMHO.

Same reason vertical bows have various lengths of fletch. That would be differing opinions on what works best.

The 4" vanes have a lower profile. Personal preerence based on what works for you.

Depends on broadhead used and arrow weight.
