Hello. I have an old 12 gauge Springfield/Savage Model 94 which was given to me in a parts basket. I replaced the broken stock and cleaned up the metal to where it looks nice. I don't even need this thing but for some reason, I like going back to the simplicity of the old single barrel break-down shotguns of my youth. My question...the forearm lug tack welded to the barrel in four (4) small places has worn over the years to the point that the forend wants to fly off when the gun is fired. A spring in the forend rests inside that lug to secure the forend. Is there an easy solution to correct this? Would a small TIG weld (dressed down with a file) along with where the forearm spring rests be a practical solution or would it be too hot and damage the tack welds of the lug on the barrel? I don't want to do the friction tape of the forend anymore like I used to do with my old Model 37s. Thanking you all in advance for any help.
