I took an old friend hunting this afternoon. I couldn't hunt but for an hour, but thought my chances of getting a doe was pretty good if my old friend could hold up his end of the hunt. The doe cooperated and in spite of being 107 years old my friend was up to the challenge. The doe is in the cooler and the Winchester is back on the wall.

Wow! That's really cool. Very nice of you to take the old feller out for a hunt, I'm sure he enjoyed the hell out of it.

Slumlord, the 35 Winchester turned out to be a bit much for the doe to handle with grace, so I didn't take one...

I’ve got an 1886 with the same Climbin Lyman rear sight. Take her out every year when doe days come. The 33WCF doesn’t take any prisoners.
Congrats on your success!

Congrats on your success! I was wondering if that contraption on the side was a sight. Raise to a hash mark line?

All kidding aside, I have a friend that has had two 'episodes' in the wilds of East TX that he is quite positive about. He does not talk about them much and understands that most everyone would not take him seriously. He is a very intelligent professional and one of the least likely people I know that would BS anyone about anything. I think you lost your way and meant to post this on the sasquatch thread.🙂

Thanks for the comments guys! These old ones are a lot of fun to get going again and hunt with. I had to do some scrounging to come up with the brass and finally got lucky. Godawgs, I love the climin Lyman sight. Only problem with it is people want to fiddle with the lever. I always have to check it after someone has looked at the rifle. It does have a set screw so that I can drop the sight back to the original location.
I realized last night about dark thirty that a 200gr bullet at 2400 fps is a big much for a smallish doe at 15 yards. I need to dial that load back a bit since most all of my shots will be less than a 100 yards and I don't expect to see one of Hook's Squatches in my neck of the woods. I was ready for him last night though. That 35 Winchester is just a few FPS behind a 358 Winchester and dead even with the 356 Winchester...Not bad for a lever action rifle from 1913.
