If one takes a stock REM 700 BDL in 223, and rebarrels to 223 ackley improved, will it feed properly? Any thing other than the AI chamber that needs to be changed to go from a 223 to 223 AI? Thanks

I have had several Rem 700's, none feed from the magazine, not even close.
I went to a 22/204 Ruger to avoid the feeding problems, unreal accuracy and speed. Win brass is holding up well.
It is the exception, not the rule to have an unaltered Rem 700 not have feeding problems with the 223 AI. Gunsmiths usually alter the feed rails a tad to allow the case to rise sooner than the std 223 case due to the lack of taper on the case body.

Getting some mixed messages on this, so I’ll probably not go the AI route. Thanks to all that responded.

Point of fact I don't really think the AI offers that much in a standard 12 twist gun, and I'd never put together another one. Plain vanilla .223 works just as well..unless for some odd reason your buy a snappy little cartridge and seek to turn it into a slower version by adding heavy bullets..
Stick with basic 223...

Standard stuff in the 223 AI-26" bbl either 12T or 14T
40g at 4100+; N-133 or AA2015 50g at 3800+; many powders, H335 will give the longest barrel life 55g at 3650+; N135 is my favorite with the 55g what evers
Amazing accuracy

My Rem 700 in 223AI doesn't feed well. I wouldn't do it again

Mine runs fine with 50’s up to 75’s. Never a problem with feeding from the modified factory mag box. Killed LOTS of prairie dogs with that rifle. Have a new Brux barrel on the shelf for it if I ever shootout the PacNor.

I’m sticking with the non AI. Have a shilen 1:12 ordered. Will have it cut at 25”. Shooting mostly 50 gr ballistic tips. Thanks for all the comments.
