There are so many good choices I guess "in between." I've never hunted in Alaska or Canada so maybe it's different. And no matter what if the money is no big deal and/or you just want Sitka than have at it.

I spend a decent amount of time with hunters every fall in Wyoming who are in Sitka head to toe and I just can't see the value. Yes I like effective clothing. I'm not really that old and when I started bowhunting as a kid I was hunting in clothes that weren't much more than camo pajamas.

For the record I have one Sitka base layer top that I bought for $25 I think, at STP. So yeah I'll buy and wear it at those price levels.

Had a hunter in camp last year bragging about his Sitka many 100s of $ down coat. I wanted to pull out my Brooks Range down puffy that I bought on close out for $80. In the last year I bought a synthetic puffy for $7 and a grid fleece pull over for $25.

Shop around, look outside hunting companies, is camo really necessary, but really just get what you want and what you can afford.

Good points, especially on the insulating layers. Down is a complete no go around here due to the humidity.

Do a lot of hills here in the Adirondacks. The way Sitka (and Kuiu) stretch as you move equals less energy expended while I climb or walk. I wore my woolies one afternoon after acquiring Sitka and have never gone back to them. They seemed to fight me the whole day and I was noticibly more tired at the end of the day.

I'm fit, train for half Ironmans.

Love Sitka.

I teach, the discount applies.

Ordered a set of Kuiu Chugach rain gear this week as well.

Thanks for the tip, my wife is a teacher so she is in the process of applying for LEOAdventures...do they offer 40% at Sitka?

Yes sir.

I have been hiking these local hills and field edges here for several years now. I have more different camo fatigues than you can shake a stick at,(Ya, I am one of those dudes you saw at 11,300 feet in rip stop w/ cargo pockets grin) I wear them hunting here in the lowlands till it gets in the teens or lower. Then I go to my wool bibs. Woolens suck around here cuz of all the "clingons" Unfreaking believable. My fatigues do not become overwhelmed with them, but the silent material packs and outer layer gear I have gets pummeled with em! I spend an hour at night removing clingons, it's my job!

I’ve got all sorts of clothes, including expensive hunting clothing. Could really give a tiniest of a [bleep] what anybody else thinks about my clothes. That’s for high school cheerleaders to worry about.

I don’t give a fuuck if a guy hunts in a loin cloth, but that’s fuuckin funny, I don’t care who ya are!! 😂😂

That being said fuuck Sitka, pass kuiu, first lite and king of the mountain. First lite being my favorite. Still haven’t found a “good” rain gear, something 99% of you guys ain’t gotta worry about. Same with boots, never seen a “waterproof “ boot either... grin

Wow! This went from asking a question about a sale of Sitka to bashing it and several other brands in about 2 breaths. The campfire is alive and well.

I bought a Sitka jacket in 2011 for an Alaska hunt. It did that and several hunts in MT over the last 9 years and still is holding up well. I tried First Light last year buying some pants a balaclava, heavier coat and wool hooded shirt. I much prefer this to the jeans I usually wore including jean jackets I hunted in for years. Walking in snow the pants don't build up with snow and become wet like jeans, or wool for that matter. This year I am trying some KUIU items because unlike First Light and Sitka most of their stuff isn't Chinese made.

KUIU is having a sale now for some stuff, but I haven't seen much Sitka on sale, but I think Midway is or has had a sale on it recently.

I bought a pair of kuiu pants for Black Friday. I had a pair of kryptek's but hate the pocket layout.

I am a gaiter freak and have worn them for years. I used to buy only OR as they had a set that fit my size 15 pac boots. I bought a set of Kuiu gaiters a few years back that are top notch! Have a set of Cabelas that get the job done but not near as heavy duty...

Hmmm. I'm torn between whether that's any better, or not. I guess in this day and age, yeah, it is, eh?
