The deer hunting has been not great since rifle season has pushed them to be nocturnal. Took the kids out to the river for a couple hours this morning. Ended up with a half dozen 6-12 pound blue cats and this monster pushing 80 pounds. I was fighting this fish and the two other rods went off. The seven year old started to play a 10 pounder and the the four year old could not make it to the third rod in time before it got pulled off the bank and into the river. Dropped the phone and car keys on the bank and handed the rod to the seven year old. So he was holding two rods with fish on. Jumped in after the third rod. Muscled in and banked the 8 pounder on that rod. Took the rod with the monster back. We fought both fish in at the same time. Finally got to show the boys why we take the net as we normally just bank drag the cats under 25 pounds. WAHOO! CHAOS! Kids are screaming because they are excited. Phone shut off and played hard to turn on. Three fish on the bank including my best blue cat to date! For perspective... I am 6'6" 270#. How's the eating on a fish that size? We don't keep them when they get that big. 20 pounds and under will take a hot oil bath but the big ones get turned back. Too many heavy metals, PCBs and so on build up in our river cats that get that big.
