The 1911 GI is like a 4WD with street tires, ya it’ll work but why?
I like a beaver tail safety, undercut trigger guard, forward slide serrations, front strap stippling, commander hammer, good irons, reliable and accurate.
It is only a one, well seven trick pony, so it needs to have style. If I want basic, I’ll grab a Glock.

And some elephant ivory grips are always a nice touch (imported into the US prior to 1990, of course). I just gave it a thorough cleaning (even the firing pin and extractor channels), as when I inspected it after digging it out of the safe today (where it had remained undisturbed for a few years), I noticed it was filthy internally. I must have shot it years ago, wiped it down, wrapped it, and put it in the safe without cleaning, intending to take it out again soon, and just never got around to it. Cleaned up nice, though. This is the same 1961 Government Model as in the earlier shots. I just switched the grips.

I gotta have a beavertail, arched housing and a long trigger, and good sights, either adjustable or big fixed sights (my eyes ain't what they used to be). Anything else is gilding the lily, I like a checkered frontstrap, but can live without it. I like a 3.25lb. trigger, but I can live with a heavier pull, if I have to.
I bought a new Ruger SR 1911 Target model last year, added an arched mainspring housing (S&A magwell, really), and it's been dandy. I got it for $800 bucks, which is a pretty good deal. Then again, it's mate is a Colt 1991A1 out of the Colt Custom Shop, with some tweaks and big fixed sights, and it's pretty nice, too. I paid $500 for it 25 years ago, and that was a "steal" even back then. It was a demo gun, I'm told. I didn't know it was a custom shop gun until I took off the left grip panel, where it's marked CCS. I can't honestly recall a malfunction out of either gun, either.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

My Super .38 Automatic is looking a little worn these days. This is the good side.

This one gives me all I want in a 1911, for any of my uses, short or competitive matches. MM That'd work for me.

These 2 check a lot of boxes for me. The Dan Wesson CCO .45 is my CCW. Lightweight and very accurate. The Wilson Combat CQB compact 9mm for range work and occasional carry when I don’t mind the weight of an all steel gun. Again very accurate. Both guns have excellent sights and triggers. I would like to add a more traditional 1911 to the mix. Something like the Nighthawk Custom Colt.

I had a Guardian in 38 super. Bought it with the CCO. Didn’t wish I would have gotten it in 9mm. Nice for sure.

But, the fellow that does got the schematics from Larry and pays Larry a royalty on every single set. I have talked to him at length (and Larry in the years prior). Very decent fellow.

I like those grips & have them on a couple of guns besides my Wilson's...........just ordered some for a Beretta 92 Compact as well.
Some people talk negative about Wilson, & they are definitely hard to contact, but all their products that I've ever used were really good.

Something that matches the WWII era issue.
Reproduction or the real deal.
How about WWI ? (with Wilson Combat sights)

How about WWI ? (with Wilson Combat sights) I've got a 1917 Remington frame with a Colt slide on it. It belonged to my wife's grandfather who was a Captain in the Navy during WW2. I'm going to re-spring it and put some down the pipe and see how she does.

1917 Remington is a Remington UMC, not a Remington Rand. I had one, but sold it.
