Hi all,
Just thinking about adding a 6.5 something, not sure what yet. What are the benefits of having a 260 AI over standard 260? I'm a rookie reloader, but I've never had anything AI and would like to have something different than most other people. Primary purpose whitetails and paper. Considering a Match Grade Machine barrel (probably 24") on my Encore receiver for this project. All opinions welcome. Thanks for any help.

I'd go 6.5 x ,284 on a LA and grab some Lapua Brass. Or just go straight .260 on your encore.

Probably a cartridge with very little benefit to "improving." If you wanted an AI 6.5, I would think you'd get the most benefit (though not much) out of doing a 6.5X55 rather than a .260 (although, IMHO, the 6.5X55 is already the perfect rifle cartridge.) Seems like a better way to scratch your AI itch. I scratched mine with .25-06 AI, coincidentally in an Encore. Works well....is it a significant improvement over the standard .25-06? That's debatable. What's not debatable though, is how cool those .25-06AI loads look in the loading block....looks like a bunch of ICBN's ready to blast off.

I have never seen any reason to chamber a single shot rifle for a cartridge designed to fit within the parameters of a magazine.

If it was mine, I'd go with the 6.5x55, 256 Newton, or 6.5-06.

What are you plans for the rifle? Hunting or punching paper/dinging steel? I have an Encore presently in 270 that will make group after group ragged holes and you have to look pretty hard to find a round a lot better for most hunting. If I wanted something different for my Encore it would be a 260 Remington with a 1 in 8 twist. Simply because brass is easy to make and come by yet that round has a lot of potential. An especially accurate round being the 6MM BR would be a nice round to fool with. Light recoil, plenty of good bullets to fool with.

You’re begging for a 6.5x284 and you just don’t know it yet.

What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?
