The Brazilian Army put in a huge order for these in 1937. They are essentially the same as our US M1917. Here's a typical group fired at fifteen yards double action, unsupported. The little grips tore up my skin a little, but not so bad. There are certainly more practical grips available for it, though, than these modern made S&W retros. I forgot to bring the half moon clips, so I just poked the spent cases out with a pencil.

Interesting.
from what I can see it looks really nice. Has it been refinished?
Cool gun, and a decent shooter too. I'd not want to be downrange being fired at in anger.

Cool gun, and a decent shooter too. I'd not want to be downrange being fired at in anger. Yeah, it had been reblued by someone at some point. The originals came with a more frosty kind of finish (rather than glossy), as shown in this picture.

I have one of these. Mine is parkerized. They are wonderful revolvers, and are now gaining on the standard 1917 price wise.

I have a snubbie started out of a 37 Brazilian. I need front sights and finish. It started out coming back to the states severely pitted and my buddy reworked the whole gun while in a 'smithing school in Colorado. I traded it from him several years ago. It is a serious snubbie now. I have toyed with the idea of a 6.5" medium barrel put on her. I have the loaded moon clips and a mooner-demooner in the shooting bag but I have also brought the wrong bag to the range. I did add the Tyler grip adapter and it feels better. I still have the pin and lanyard ring. The short barrel gives a lot of recoil. I think the weight of the original barrel out 5" to the front took the kick out of it. Won't know the difference in a difficulty. Enjoy that Brazilian and Be Well, RZ.

Great looking revolver....I've had a couple of S&W Brazilian 45 ACP revolvers. First one I had for 30 years, until it was stolen. The replacement was adopted by my son and now I'm keeping my eyes out for its replacement. Both of my 1937's came with a commercial looking blue from S&W. They were much better finished than the usual 1917. While the finish on both of my 1937's was in fairly good condition overall and the bores were great, the outside was pretty evenly covered with little dents and scratches like they had been put in a box with a bunch of tools and driven down a washboard road. I'd love to get the stolen one back, but that isn't likely to happen. If I see another one with a good bore and the price isn't outlandish, I'll likely get it. Those are revolvers worth having.
