What states did this take place in? Northwest PA, I believe both were on their annual adventure to "deer camp". Possibly flat-landers, one was wearing orange pants!!!!

Didn't the military offer small condoms for that purpose? I've looked for years and never found any. I would imagine you would need a Texan size for a pre-ban AR with a flash protector.

I have discouraged people from putting small balloons over the muzzle. If the bullet doesn’t go through the balloon it will stretch until it pulls the rifle right out of your hands. Dangerous and embarrassing. HAHAHAHA I about spit coffee out of my nose when I read that

In all seriousness, can someone post a pick of the proper way to tape the muzzle if there is a proper way.

Does the color matter? Obviously, and to be effective the tape must he black. Only black tape matters.

In all seriousness, can someone post a pick of the proper way to tape the muzzle if there is a proper way. Just cut a square piece, stretch it over the muzzle, then several wraps around the barrel to hold it on.

I'm the only one at camp that tapes the muzzle. I've been doing it since the late 70's. It keeps crud and water out of the barrel. High Brass taped his barrels too and put a wrap behind the muzzle is he needed more in the field.

Been wrapping muzzles since my first deer hunt on Montague Island in 1978. You would have to be an idiot to think one thin layer of tape could blow up a barrel.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

As a tree climbing deer hunter most of my adult life, a piece of electrical tape over the muzzle gives me the peace of mind that I didn't accidentally fit a small stick into the barrel on the way up into the tree stand. That or I'm not sure footed enough to guarantee that I won't stumble and plug the bore with snow or mud and that would cause a big problem. People seem to think that it is the bullet that breaks the tape at the end of the barrel. Ain't so. It's all the air in the barrel being pushed out ahead of the barrel by the bullet. I suppose you could figure out the volume of air in a given diameter barrel, but being kind of math challenged, I'll leave that up to Mathman or a similar member if it really matters to anyone.

Climate can narrow the options, 3M super33+ is supposed to be good to zero Fahrenheit. I believe it comes in black only.

Does anyone wander around with their barrel in their mouth or up their ass to keep out rain, mud (not when it is in your ass though) and debris? This technique also keeps people from wanting to talk to me, so it is win/win.

It ain't the tape, exactly. It's that rubber plug being held in by the tape.... I'm the only one at camp that tapes the muzzle. I've been doing it since the late 70's. It keeps crud and water out of the barrel. High Brass taped his barrels too and put a wrap behind the muzzle is he needed more in the field. Me too. There is always some time, often raining, snowing, trekking and/or meat packing after the first tape gets blasted off.
