Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Biden and his gang of idiots will probably put an end to brass importation from Europe, just like Clinton did.

The 6.5-06 is gonna feed slicker than the 6.5-284. Now, a good smith can make the fatter round feed about as well. The '06 clone will feed slick without any tweaking.

The 6.5-284 feeds just fine

Mine does, for sure.

But, some don't without tweaking.

Aalf:That is a nice looking rifle and good velocity too. What powder and what barrel length? Also, why do you prefer a 130 grain bullet and which one? Thx

Thanks.....it is a 26" Bartlein 3b.

I've always have shot H-4831-SC in my 6.5-284's. My very 1st 1K gun I torched a third of it's barrel life chasing the best load. Finally settled on that powder, and bought 48 pounds of it. Down to a partial jug now, but it will last due to switching to a 6 Dasher for my BR guns quite a while ago.

Back when I built it, 140 VLD's were not to be found anywhere, but luckily I had a pile of the 130's on the shelf, so I went with them. Figured they would get me by till 140's showed up, but they shoot so well, I'm staying there.

I shoot a 6.5 PRC at stuff and also shoot 130 VLDs and H4831sc, for the exact same reasons. I ain't switching they shoot so well. Mine are at 3200 on the nose from my Seekins PH...

I used to use Norma Black Diamond 130s @3150.
I now use 143@ 2990. Seems to be adequate

Yep that’s my thinking as well; never come up short on brass for the 06 family.

6.5-280 AI using Lapua 30-06 partially sized with a false shoulder on FF’n seems like a decent enough plan?

Love the rifle, but next time I'll do a shouldered prefit to lose the nut, and go with a contour more like the Bartlein 3b or carbon for balance. Actually, my next 6.5 build will likely be the Wby 6.5RPM.

Oh...and zero problems feeding from Tikka mags.

That gun is sweet. I'm currently building a 6.5-284 on a Tikka, but its going to be in a chassis. What powder are you using? Thanks

Dog, using a stiff load of Reloder 23 at the moment. H4831sc gave me a slightly more accurate node, but it was 130fps slower. 3015fps vs 2890 with 140gr BTHP/142SMK. Also using Re23 with 130gr Sierra Tipped GameKings (Gamechangers) at 3144.

Perfect! thanks, I have both of those powders on hand. I'm using a 30" 7.5 twist Krieger heavy palma barrel...

PS, how do you like that Zeiss? I'm really curious about it. I've only seen the specs.

Thanks

You should be able to get them humming right along with the 30".

Love the Zeiss. I'm a fan of the color contrast from Leupolds, but can never quite seem to dial out all the parallax--at least I couldn't on the VX6s I had. The Zeiss is a little heavier, but very clear and seems to track very well on the long range dialing. I usually purchase from Redhawk Rifles on their demo program. The first scope purchased for this rifle was a demo 6-24x50. After a ride down some very rough roads and a bit of bouncing, that rifle seemed to have lost its seal--it went a bit hazy. I sent it to Zeiss for a check, they replaced it and shipped a new scope within 3 hours of receipt. So far I have 2 of the 4-16X44s and the one 6-24.

Does anyone have a suggestion on which type of AICS magazine to use with 6.5-284 for best feeding?

30-06 or a 300win mag?
