pardon my ignorance, but is no 4 turkeyshot (say, federal grand slam 3 inch) the same (pellet size-wise and ballistic-wise) as no 4 buckshot (say, federal buck 3 inch).

also, any possibility of barrel damage using copper or nickel-plated lead shot in a chrome-lined barrel?

No, #4 shot is .13 inches in diameter and #4 Buckshot is .24 inches in diameter. They are NOT the same or even close.

Plated shot will not damage a barrel, chrome lined or otherwise. The plating is a very thin layer designed to help with better patterns. Since chrome lining is harder than regular steel it would be less subject to damage than a regular shotgun barrel.
