Back in October I posted some pics of the buck I was lucky enough to take this year. He is an 8 point that grosses 152”. He’s 19.5” inside with 13” g2s, way past the threshold for monster buck, imo. In that thread, I mentioned that there was another awesome 8 point on the same farm. My good friend from Colorado was able to get him on the ground last week after hunting morning and night for 4 days. His buck is 20.5” inside, has 25” beams, 10” g2s, 5.5” bases, and brow tines that are fatter than my thumbs. It is an absolute giant and looks like he’ll gross close to 155”. I point out score only for reference, I couldn’t have cared less what they scored, they were obviously shooters.

I’ve told and shown pics of these bucks to several people recently, and almost all have had the same reply. “That’s a heck of a buck....for an 8 point.” I finally snapped a little at a guy over the weekend and asked him what the “for an 8 point” meant. If he had 2 more tines would he be a heck of a 10 point or just a heck of a buck? I don’t get it. Oh well, enough venting. My buddy and I couldn’t be happier. With roads every mile and 4 or more landowners on most sections, not many deer in my immediate area make it to 5years old. We have the genetics but just don’t get to show it often enough.

I never dreamed we’d be able to get both of these bucks when I first got pics of them grouped up in August. Since they split in late August, I’ve only had this buck on my trail cams twice until Thanksgiving Day. I had pics of him every night, but only at night, for the week after he moved back to my place. On Friday afternoon he was bedded 100 yards from the stand. My friend had no idea until the buck stood up. A Ruger 25-06 from 80 yards did the trick.

Wow, great buck!

Well, you know, for an 8 point. blush

For me, there's something, almost magical, about a big majestic typical 8 pointer.

That is beautiful deer! Congrats!

I too wonder why people get so caught up if it s a 4x4 or a 5x5? To me, it's about the effort and the memory that makes it special.

Perfect!!!!
However....no reason to snap......the for an 8 point was a compliment. Most 8’s are not even close to that nice....

That's a heck of a buck...for anywhere! Congratulations to you and your friend.

Great buck, who cares how many points he has. I don’t go out looking for a buck that’s any particular score either, I just hunt for old heavy bucks, points and inches be danged. I saw a big heavy buck a few days ago that was probably 18” wide, he was a big 6 pointer. If I’d have had an unfilled buck tag he’d have been in danger for sure.

To get a good score w 8 points and not 10, means its a nice one.

" For an eight point ".

Take it as a compliment whether they mean it that way or not. smile

I’m sorry dude but to me there is something special about a massive 8 point like that; I’m with you! “For an 8 point”!?

Don’t get me wrong I’m a good Michigander who dreams of da turdy point buck, eh! Even so a nice heavy, symmetrical, long beamed 8 is a picture of beauty.

Awesome work going after and killing those guys! That’s a real feat and you guys pulled it off congrats!

Congrats on a fine whitetail and also for knowing how to pose for pics, no bloody wound, tongue hanging out or mitts all over the antlers.

I don’t mean to sound like my feelings were hurt because of the eight point hate. I hadn’t seen, let alone hunt and harvest, even one buck close to this in over 5 years, so I don’t need anyone’s approval. I just got annoyed because inferring that an 8 cant be a stud buck is nonsense. I got the impression that a lot of the people I talked to were thinking along the lines of “just think what he’d of scored if he had 2 more tines”. The first person I texted about the second buck replied “What did he score?”. The buck had only been dead a couple of hours, and he knew that. I replied that gun, bullets, tape measure wasn’t exactly our checklist for hunting. I’ll measure them up eventually, but jeez, he wasn’t even cold yet.

Takes one heck of a frame to get over 150" as an 8point. Great bucks, congrats!
